I was conflicted about posting this topic since i’m considering myself as a casual player. (Who grinds on 3 different nations at the moment) but I decided to open this topic to see if there something we can discuss (and do) about the latest T-34-85 (STP)
I’m gonna be honest; I was kinda hyped about that T-34 back when It got announced on Legends of Victory event and I was eager to have at least a 5.7 STAB vehicle with a decent gun (Like the M4A3 76 (W) ) I was kinda suprised to see it on 6.0 first on the dev server; then 6.3 (Because of the BR-367 from the T-44)
Now here’s my question : Do you think this vehicle is playable on its current Battle Rating ? (Line-up wise and especially against 7.0/7.3 vehicles)

why they gotta be ruining all the german and russian low tier line ups the M4A3 76W is 5.7 while basically only having slightly worse armor whats with them doing germany and russia dirty the br range feels so unplayable compared to what it was
It doesn’t even have worse armor. The M4A3 76W literally has more viable turret armor, not to mention the frontal plate can even be more angled due to the extra depression and even the T-34-85’s armor only works at more extreme angles at max, but can be defeated by most long cannons still. The T-34-85 (STP) being 6.3 is pure cope about people not knowing how to utilize the M4A3 (76) properly and assuming the T-34-85 is somehow a bias machine.
german TIGER E got moved to 6.0 even tho its only difference in a match is the smaller kupola and no launchers there basically identical otherwise 76 sherman mains whine to much its mostly the noobs
mind you H1 is 5.7 with old kupola
Tiger E could be same br at 5.7 no issue really as M26 is same br as the T26s so why not
if they dont lower T34-85 the M4A376W should get raised
They should just roll it back to oroginal state. It would be much better at 6.0 without BR-367, it’s not like this shell will allow you to pen amything you can’t already go through with the 365A
Yeah, should be dropped to 6.0, maybe even further, pretty similar to a 76 Sherman. Sure, a stabiliser is useful but at 6.3 (and constant uptiers to 6.7) the gun is weak and the armour is useless against long 88s and US 90s
It would be at a minimum 6.0 because it basically beats the M4A3E8 in efficiency due to the stronger gun.
But even 6.0 is pretty strong when you have Panther A/G and Tiger E there while the STP has a gun that on average is going to penetrate the same targets but is more likely to be able to shoot it.
It’s very much comparable to the T20, which has the advantage of a faster reverse, more gun depression and a .50cal.
But the 85mm is just more capable.
It’s not a stronger gun, it’s almost identical. The 85mm shell is not some magical shell that goes through everything and the 76mm shell is not even a bad shell, ffs, it may have less explosives and a bit worse angled performance, but balances itself out by having a noticeably faster reload (2 less seconds). Not to mention that you don’t have to constantly worry about any slope locking up your gun due to the lack of depression.
Tiger E also has 50 extra horsepower, which is incredibly noticeable when it comes to acceleration. And the cupola itself does already warrant a BR increase, the H1 cupola literally makes you vulnerable to even an American 75mm APHE due to how much it stands out, leading to a massive decrease in survivability.
Lets not pretend that gun depression is a game winning feat on a tank.
It’s nice to have and good when you can use it but doesn’t stop a tank from racking up tons of kills.
And the 85mm does have much better slope armor penetration and damage compared to the US 76.
The better RoF is nice to have but again, it’s just 1.6s slower.
I think 1.6s longer reload beats having to shoot a target twice because the first didn’t pen or caused less damage.
Depression does make you situationally far less viable though, given how many maps tend to have slopes to utilize. Less depression also makes you more exposed and unlike the M4A3 that can atleast utilize its good turret armor, the T-34-85 is forced to expose the full tank despite not having the armor to withstand anything at 6.3.
Let’s not pretend the 76mm doesn’t one shot most of the time too or critically disable a tank to an extent that it’s literally inoperable for like 45 seconds. 60+g of explosive mass is easily enough. And regarding the slope penetration, the 76mm does in exchange has higher max pen, which is what I mean by not being that much worse against slopes. Even then, you should be shooting the flattest spots on tanks whenever possible, especially if you have a stabilizer to aim.
“Just 1.6s slower” Except you have to take into account that German cannons also share the exact same reload with the T-34-85. The M4A3 (76) has a much bigger advantage incase both of you shoot the wrong spots, the T-34-85 tho makes it so that you both take out each other due to reloading at the same time. Not to mention it makes it noticeably harder to engage multiple targets in time before the enemy has time to react.
Yeah, I’m not gonna keep arguing about this anymore. Go find more competent opponents that easily counter your flanking playstyle and maybe play more with the 76mm instead of making things up about how “weak” it is.
60g is not enough.
85 has like what, 160g?
And it nukes everything it hits. People survive 76mm fairly often.
Damn in Tiger I have around 100, yet I use Pzgr with 200, because it’s just that much better, and mind you, every shell over around 100g overpressures crew on top of killing with spall, what is different is the diameter of the overpressure sphere (Pzgr has emough to usually kill entire crew, but if you shoot Jumbo’s transmission, it doesn’t get to the turret, only kills driver and MG operator).
85mm has A LOT better angled pen. Acrually it has better angled pen than Panther in some situations.
And while the 164 pen shell is not “super good”, it will allow you to pen Panther F turret at any reasonable distance, while 76mm and standard 85mm shells struggle.
It’s also better vs Tigers and has much better chance vs King Tiger cupola and MG port.
It may also be better vs 76mm Sherman turrets will have to test it, though.
