Isn’t 3.7 BR a bit too low for this strong armor?
The cannon is very bad, not as bad as the churchill I’s cannon but still pretty bad, specially since it is pretty hard to flank with a heavy tank without being spotted or the enemy moving on.
This tanks a mixed bag. It has the same armor layout as the KV-1 ZiS5, but with a 45mm gun, and a gimmicky flamethrower. 45mm gun has similar pen to the L-11, but post pen is lacking, and the APCR round is very bad.
I don’t even think a KV-8 can legitimately kill a KV1-E/B if they crossed paths except for an angled shot into the mg port.
A KV-8 can easily kill another KV-8
I found that out almost instantly when I previewed it
The way they have it modeled, the Turret armor is that of the Kv-1 (L-11), and hull armor, but with additional frontal armor on the hull only.
Its cannon only boasts 67mm pen with APHE.
3.7 is exactly where it should be.
Incorrect. Armor viewer shows that it is the KV-1 (L-11) or 1941 model. Which is correct, after I did a bit of digging.
What digging is that?
The only reference I could find to turret armour says it should be 90mm front as per - KV-8 - WarHistory.org

“ The KV-8 flame-thrower
The KV-1 was also chosen to be used as platform for the new ATO-41 flame-thrower. The gun mantlet accommodated the flamethrower tube, a coaxial DT machine-gun and, replacing the former ZiS-5 gun, a 45 mm (1.77 in) QF model 1932 in disguise, housed inside a 76 mm (3 in) tube. The gun was standard issue on the BT series and the T-26, and had good penetration power against 20-25 mm (0.79-0.98 in) of armor. 45 units were converted using KV-1B hulls (model 1941), and later on, 25 more based on the upgraded KV-1S. Two prototypes of the next version (KV-1M) and a few experimental units with the flame-thrower was relocated in the hull were also built and tested in combat.”
I’d trust the tank encyclopedia over a lot of other sources.
So that would make it the 90mm turret and not the L-11??
No. The early versions had less armor, and generally received the appliqué armor if anything.
Later turrets were 90mms I believe.
Your quote states they remove the ZIS-5 gun - in the game that is the 90mm turret.
The only KV-1B in the game is the Finnish one in the German tree - and it has a F-32 gun with 75mm base turret face plus aplique on the front flat cheeks and sides.
Plus of course the Sovietes never designated them as KV-1B - that is a purely western feature to make it easier to figure out various different conficurations, so it is a pretty inexact identification!!
Yeah, it should be the KV-1 Model 1941 hull + turret, which is the KV-1 ZiS-5 in-game
What we have right now is a KV-1B/E hull + turret (Model 1940), but with no applique on the turret, and therefore the same as the KV-1 L-11 (Model 1939)
I’ll assume that was done for balancing purposes, because as the KV-8 is now it is balanced at 3.7, with solid but not unbreakable armour, and a gun that can still function to a decent degree
If they’d given it the Model 1941 hull and turret, it could never be 3.7, but at a higher BR the gun would rapidly become extremely anemic
until you realise 3.7 is nothing but full uptiers and getting uptiered allows you to fight tanks with the 17 pounder and swedish 105 heatfs.
I know, some vehicl’s BRs are just a slap in the face. It just doesn’t fit to early WW2 expierience etc.

Looks like someone went wild in my posts with the flag
WTF has being gay got to do with $20 being $20??
Tomorrow I will farm KV-8s with Jagdpanzer IV and Jagdpanzer 38(t) combo

The harvest will indeed be plentiful
Add the Jagdpanzer IV/70 A and kv-1B and you’ll be eating good!
How much would it go on the marketplace?
