No its a good idea and its the way the game should be .The fact that Gaijin cannot do it is the only reason they dont do it. In an ideal world WW2 tanks would only face WW2 and all tanks would play in their respective eras on the appropriate maps. Warthunder is sadly miles from that and never be that .Just as the BR issue will never resolved or the balance issues. You play modern tanks on the 1944 Normandy map because Gaijin cant do it any other way. Its not about bad or good ideas it is about what you are stuck with on this 12 year old game.
Until War Thunder 2 or a new more modern game comes out we are all stuck with the bad parts of this game and the likes of me and the OP will always complain about it but dont tell me historical matchmaking is a bad idea when it is the expectation of a game in 2024.
Brother what? He has thousands of missions
Your asking for era separation, separating pre-war and WW2 from cold war, which is not historical match making. Those are two very different things.
Still the problem with that is… who would want to play something that isn’t the very best of the era?
A million games wont make stupid people any more intelligent.
I know what I am asking for thanks.
He is saying that you don’t even need 200 matches, let alone 12000, to reach the conclusion that historical match making is generally a bad idea.
Which I agree with.
So tell me how and why having the South African Concept 3 from 1980 in a game and line up with pretty much all WW2 Vehicles is a good idea then? Why is doing that so good ? What is so positive about it?
go play something like the sakeen and tell me you want it to go to 7.0 because it was made in 1946
Explain how the Concept 3 is unbalanced at its current BR in the first place, besides “it was made in 1980”.
And now also explain how the Concept 3 being placed against T-80s would be balanced.

I dont play past 5BR now so I coun’t give a toss.6BR and beyond was ruined by 109 spam .Playing as Russia recently at 6.7 was just boring in slow mostly unmodded tanks as light modern stuff dances around you and get 2 or 3 kills before you even get near the battle. The game is not about balance its about fun and in the realm of the late heavy it is no fun.
The Concept 3 is not in the same BR as the T80 so why would it be balanced against it? Further more people are still using the BT5 in mid tier by choice so what do they care about balance anyway? My point is that the Concept 3 was simply thrown in to fill a gaping gap in the UK tree not because it was “great Idea” .Many Brit players hate it.
The fact is War Thunder has faults and you guys think all the bad things the game does is by design ,no its because they cant do any better.
People are going to underline the games bad points as long as they exist and if Gaijin dont like that then they may as well close the forum.
You’re advocating for historical match making, are you not?
As you pointed out the Concept 3 was from the 1980’s. The T-80 MBT entered service in 1976. Therefore, the Concept 3 would face T-80s if historical match making were put to use.
Now, I ask again, how would that be balanced?
Balance. It is in the game, and at a Br where it is balanced. If you want historical MM, it will either be hilariously bad or it would need to be removed.
If you want historical MM, get gaijin to add a mode for it. Even sim would be a good choice to play.

Only up to a point.Game play and enjoyment are the main focus and WW2 tanks and Cold war artillery/Fast Heat firing 70s AFVs are painfully at odds with one another.
The game takes on a dimension that many hate.
Historical matchmaking does not overide BR ,why do you think it would?
The argument of WW2 separation for immersion and the argument of WW2 era heavies being out of place past 6BR in the game are two different issues.
The WW2 heavies have always faced small numbers of irritating fast 70s rubbish as long as I have played, most of it Italian but thankfully it was rare enough to turn a blind eye or suspend disbelief or what ever you want to call it.
Now it has gotten silly and going past 6BR in a WW2 era heavy is a best described as a drag. You move at a snails pace while the game sprints along without you.
One guy had 5 kills before I even lumbered up to see an enemy then an M109 took me out with one shot.So another long drive back in the second spawn.
At 5-6 BR in a Tiger or IS1 it was all working out more or less ,now its just a joke.its unraveling as a game that is fun.Yes I do get my 6 or 7 kills sometimes but I am on edge all game in a BR I once loved being in.
We all have to show tolerance but its gone too far now.
It quite literally does. That’s what historical match making means. Vehicles facing vehicles from the same time.
Why do you think that era separation would suddenly pit 2 BR against 12? Just cutting the game in half at Tier 3 would be a form of era separation.
Leaving the Old WW2 heavies in 1-6 and having the later cold war stuff at 6-12 in the new division one would solve half the worries especially if the M109 and fast Italian stuff was in Div 1 and not div2. There are ways around it to a degree,.
Again, era separation and historical match making are different things.
OK explain the differences.
Historical match making is vehicles facing vehicles that were made at the same time. Again, Concept 3 facing a T-80 MBT.
Era separation is simply a separation between WW2 (including post war vehicles “worthy” of WW2 BR) and post war vehicles. A Concept 3 would still be in the WW2 era, because even though it was made in the 80’s, performance it has far more like that of a WW2 vehicle.
Neither are good options in my opinion. Historical match making is horribly unbalanced, and era separation would mean that everyone would play the “top” of a specific era where only downtiers are possible, and no-one would play the “bottom” where only uptiers are possible.
