What’s the difference between a prototype and a pre-prod vehicle ? Where can we put the limit for a prototype to be judged as pre-prod working machine ?

Prototypes are vehicles that are still in their testing phase, with details unconfirmed
Pre-production is usually 95% ready for mass production, with designs basically finalised.

The vehicle I’m wondering about is the Mirage 4000. Many consider it a prototype, but for me, knowing that it has made more than 330 flights, and that it wasn’t mass-produced just because it wasn’t launched on the market (afaik it almost interested a customer, but the USA put its foot in it, as usual.), it’s a pre-prod plane to my eyes.

It was fully combat capable, with it even having full weapon loads mounted on it, so it was definitely past the prototype stage.
