"Initially equipped with RB199 MK104E engines generating xlb of thrust with full reheat. This somewhat limited flight performance but sadly the more powerful EJ200 engines were not ready for initial testing, therefore placeholder MK104E’s were used. " - Typhoon thread
Typhoon is a F-22 counterpart. If anything, maybe one of those pre-production variants some people talk about and which I am not too familiar with. But expecting production Typhoons at this point is crazy!
Gripen has been confirmed, and South Africa has those, so maybe U.K gets that, given the British tech tree is linked to South Africa to a large degree.
Worse engines, different flight model (I don’t know how different or what exactly is different), worse weaponry (even early production models like the Tranche 1 block 2 only had things like AIM-9L/i’s and early AMRAAMs), and a handful of other things which are either very minor, wouldn’t have any real effect on the game, or I’ve forgotten about.
Honest question
Would Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 1 Block 2 be OP in current meta?
EDIT: Keeping in mind that ARH missiles might be coming sooner rather than later
Not a single person has asked for a full Typhoon. They expectation would always be prototype + handicaps. Like Aim-9Ls over Aim-9Ms.Aim-120Bs over Aim-120Cs, for example. Maybe even cap hard points (12 could be fitted with AAMs, but limited 2 for fuel tanks only)
SAAF Gripens are a messy add. As SAAF only ever bought IRIS-T for them initially and then equipped them with A-Darter. Could be given ahistorical weapons, but… eh…
Britain is more likely to get Sea Harrier FA2 this coming update. But the question is how long before its outclassed?
and
How long till F-15 equivalents come?
In my opinion, Typhoon is a counterpart to the mid life F-15, Gripen E, Rafale, Su-30. All aircraft probably coming next year. and probably not that late next year either
Don’t those engines still provide the pre-production Eurofighter with a thrust-to-weight ratio higher than F-15C and F/A-18C?
So you still got a super-maneuverable plane that wasn’t fitted with thrust-vectoring because it was deemed unnecessary, except with a little less acceleration than the production plane that beats F-22s in exercises… am I mistaken?
Unfortunately yes, at least 8 missiles total depending on the loadout, the best pulse doppler radar ever fitted to a fighter aircraft, plus the MAWS system which would mean any IRST but the later developed PIRATE would set off its MAWS system, UV missile alert like helicopters.
Just think of any say 4 aircraft at top tier, i guarantee you the Typhoon does better. rate fighting, 1-circle, top speed. Probably even ground pounding which is a notable weakness of the Typhoon.
I don’t know, but seen comparisons that put it on par TWR to the Gripen C and F-15C. So… maybe? Its really hard to compare these aircraft and find accurate data for the Typhoon DA2. It would still likely be top dog, but considering Tornado F3 vs F-16C was considered acceptable. Then F-15C vs Typhoon DA2 I dont think is a problem
Wouldn’t doubt it at this point, the F-14 was stated to be in the works some eight months before it came and was probably being developed even before then. This other line in the devblog might be worth taking note of too:
Indeed, the F-2, which is a 4++ generation aircraft, will appear in the game along with comparable aircraft from other nations. However, at the moment, adding the F-2 to the game is not possible due to its significant superiority in the quality of radar equipment and far more advanced air-to-air missiles.
W/ MR-ARH known to be coming now( edit: we didn’t know it was coming then ), Python 4 in the files and MICA IR leaked, what we’re really waiting for is the next jump in radar 's and the " comparable aircraft " we know are coming anyway.
Isn’t there a very modern Israeli F-16 's radar in the files now ? V(9) I think it was.
That would be my guess too. Its Britain, must have Britain tax somewhere. Less fuel and no cannon is far more likely Especially as they could be restrictive with A2G weapons as well.
But would still be March at the earliest, 1 update after Sweden, same way Germany was with Mig-29
That’s my point- shifting unbalance from one place to another solves nothing. We must seek and strive for actual balance, not “he was OP so now I want to be the OP one”, in my opinion.
From what I can see, pre-production Eurofighter has a 0.80 thrust-to-weight ratio, compared to F-15C’s (if I recall correctly) 0.75 (both without afterburners).
So… pre-production Eurofighter still has better engine performance than a plane that is yet not ingame because it would be too good, while also having better agility and maneuverability than any other plane that will ever be ingame until we begin getting 4.5-5 gen aircraft and would also possess the best radar in the game as well.
I don’t want to come off as a party pooper, but the thought of a 13.0-13.3 material plane coming to the game at a point where we just reached 12.3 (soon to be 12.7) gives me chills.
The biggest issue with the F-2 is AESA which is just different altogether than what we have. Everything else would fit War Thunder just fine, but we don’t know what Gaijin plans to do with AESA.
