Yeah, and gets confusing with naming schemes, because Gr1, Gr1 and Gr1 are 3 different aircraft.

It’s like saying that F-16 shares pretty much everything with EF2000. You shouldn’t compare heavy air superiority fighters with light fighters.
Especially in JAS39C - EF2000 case you should take into account T/W ratio, MTOW and how max air-to-air payload would affect their flight performance.

For T/W, with 4 AMRAAM, 2 9L and 1500 kg of fuel per engine the RB.199 Eurofighter is 0.53 dry, 0.95 wet. Gripen C is 0.56 dry, 0.84 wet

And for that exact reason it should be added with Gripen C, unless Gripen got some more advanced missiles to compensate.
Indian Mig-29, South African Gripen, some sorta commonwealth F-16. There are certainly options some of which open us to even more (SU-30MKI, Tejas). But if im honest i don’t think i wanna see them. Its not like the Soviet tree is tricky to grind. The Gripen is the exception to that as its in excess of 35% British i caj gaslight myself into believing its justified that we get it

I said it before and I’ll say it again. Prototype Typhoon is fine with JAS39C (early) addition. Production Typhoon - nope.
I just don’t know when are you guys talking about prototype or production variant so just I assume it’s the latter.
I think i agree. Although DA.2 appears with Amraams im not sure if it could have fired them, but with just 9L/i’s its the same as Gaijins ordinary generational leaps seen with the F-14 and others before that.

Well, Gripen can only use AMRAAM. early F-15s were SARH not ARH, but… I just dont think they’d add a top tier aircraft like the F-15 with “downgrade” BVR missiles. The moaning would be extreme. Look at Aim-9M last update.
So id not be surprised by F-15 with AMRAAM too.
At which point, you’ve got Gripen and F-15 that would be a marked upgrade over current top tier aircraft. But the Typhoon (and I mean a really early, handicapped variant here) would not be so far ahead of those that it would need to come end of 2024/start of 2025. Q2-3 next year would be plenty of time to mature other nations and would be about the right time to “repalce” the Gen 3s Britain and Germany are likely getting this year. If Typhoon was THAT late. then it owuld be out of spite not balancing concerns

I think more likely Gripen D from teh RAF trainer thing than SA for a few reasons. but wont be same update as Sweden, more likely March next year. It would be okay, but a shame if they resorted to non-British stuff instead of adding British stuff like SHar, more jags, a new tornado IDS, etc.
