2S6 Tunguska does that before ADATS. As ADATS got add later.
Then again SAM are much needed. As before SAM being add. Helicopter could just hover over battlefield and lop ATGM against the ground targets all days till someone spawn plane and try to counter them.
with SAM being add now Helicopter are force to use terrain and tactic to survive to do their job. which i think it is better.
Before “update Apex Predators” when F-16s and alike got add. Pantsirs are not necessary as 2S6 Tunguska proof to be capable SAM vehicles as much as ADATS against things like F-4 phantom , Mig-23/27 . ADATS just has much better anti tank capability but that irrelevant to its AA role.
Right now others nation still need better AA vehicles to catch up with Pantsirs. But most nations lack proper options. As their AA system with range over 10km would be somethings like SLAMRAAM or things like MIM-23 Hawk or MIM-104 Patriot. Basically mobile long range SAM system.
What? You do realize that laser guided bombs have been in the game much longer than Apex Predators right?
CAS has been outranging SPAA for 2 years now, and still does.
Before then they still have problem seeking or locking target on the ground beyond 10km and not to mention no thermal pod for them mean they’re even less effective in bad weather or night battle.
And they could also lose lock to a tank runing behind 1 tree or smoke and if they’re doing evasive maneuver they could also lose lock. So in order to be more accurate against moving targets/targets behind cover they have to get closer than 10km .
More range than that they’re only accurate against slow or stationary targets on the open ground.

The main problem was space bomber because most Radar can’t see them and some SAM vehicles can’t elevate its missiles aiming sight high enough to target them effective (ADATS). Which can be easily balance by adding things like Ai control Radar that could detect Air targets for the whole team or long range SAM system (SA-2,MIM-3) that can only targets things at high alt to force them to stay at low alt.
Then after update Apex Predators they brought in things like thermal pod and a lot better aiming + locking guided munition create this mess.
You don’t have to lock with laser munitions… you never have.
Just drop the bomb in the general area you want to guide it, and then fine tune it after you change your trajectory to avoid SPAA shots.
Ok, so going from the inboard most station to outboard; you have a rocket pod(?S-8?), Vikhr rack, dual A2A missile rails. and a beige / tan & black cover on the face of a rectangular pod with strakes and antenna blister(s), and ?winglet?; with a black aerodynamic housing stickling out of it.
I was wondering if you know what system the pod (in the foreground under the rightmost blue flag) was for?
That’s not a “pod”, that’s just wing part where LWR (in case of right wing), RWR (not in case of RuAF Ka-52(M)), beacon lights and flares dicpancers placed. “Black aerodynamic housing” is flight parameters measuring instruments.

I admit i didn’t face majority of them much before Apex Predators. And all those time they drop winthine 10km especially Mig-27 which has no thermal cam to find targets.
That beside my point about others nation still need better AA vehicles still stand. Pantsirs are not necessary as they could just get TorM1 which China already had atm or SA-8 Gecko with 15km range which wouldn’t be too much power creeb wise
Hey Fantom, may i ask that is LMUR a truly FnF missile or it’s just like TV guided that function like fire and forget, many combat footage of LMUR shown just the gunner guiding to the target rather then lock and launch.
