Keeping them on target using the fantasy of half of an aircraft remaining upright and stable is exclusively a KA-50/52 issue.
That might be true, but any hit big enough for that kind of damage is going to cause secondary damage elsewhere. It just doesnt. All aircraft and Helis have especially overly simplified damage models that magnify damage in some cases and minimises it in others. If absolutely nothing else, maybe it shouldnt be counted as a kill if the heli can still fly and fight just fine.
Whilst I have no doubt that a skill pilot might be able to keep it airbourne and limp back to base, or at least away from the frontline and eject there, the likelyhood it would still be 100% combat capable is remote.
We just need more advanced damage models for planes and helis that eliminate the massive voids within their structures and allow rotors to actually sustain damage. I’ve seen main hits where the rotors probably would have been blown off along with the tail, but in game they take no damage at all.
I agree. The KA-50 should be a lot more unstable and hsrder to control when the tail is lost.
It is very situational helicopter, on some maps can inflict serious dmg but on most maps is virtually useless, PARS self destruct when the target is obscured even for a while, sometime refuse to lock target with plain sight and often hit into frontal armor.
It hes near zero air to air capability and very little flares. If in needs something then it is proper PARS flight trajectory, its proxy fuse and target multi lock.
I found another glitches with the Vikhr missile.
- The rocket motor of the vikhr burns whole flight up 10km when the missile selfdestruct - no wonder that this missile does hit fast moving targerts (I did some terst firing and the missile does not slow down so it is not just visual bug)
There are numerous vids where is obvious that the booster does not burn whole time, it is even obvious form vids published by manufacturer. - Probably due to above the missile reaches long range targets sooner then it should. Russians published this vid where the Ka-52 engages Bradley IFV with the Vikhr missile:

Range is not visible on the vid but even if it was the max 8km range i took 25s to hit it. In game Vikhr reaches 8km in about 22s.
I suspect that the Vikher rocket motor is not simulated at all, missile keeps flying on constant speed whole flight till it reaches max range. This giving it an edge over other ATGMs which as they propulsion simulated.

Despite its original, real-life helicoper Ka-52 which is very weak for missiles (look at Hostomel operation), its in-game “analog” Ka-52 is undestroyable because developers still live in illusion that “everything ussr is better than othrs”. And big group of players agree with such approach.

It’s always a Ka-50/52 that kills my enjoyment of this game.
Last time it ate a 120mm HEAT shell direct shot to the Ka-50 right engine intake and took “tail damage” (I got a close-up of the server replay for that one.)
Tonight it was the Ka-50 eating about 10 rounds of 30mm to the FACE (I know it was to the face because they can only shoot their chain gun forward and he shot down my AH-64 with it) and he took … can you guess? Tail damage. He had to put a fueltank fire out.

When is your Dev team going to figure this out? All the economy/research fixes are only going to carry water for so long before this meme-tastic Broken HeliUnicorn makes your game a laughingstock…

Shooting the front of Ka-50 with 30mm doesn’t do anything because the 22mm “Bulletproof glass” is immune to 30mm HEDP (with 51mm penetration.) It counts as having 104mm protection from 22mm of GLASS
And where there is no armor at all (the rest of the nose) penetrating shots just get their damage funneled to the chassis and don’t bother the pilot.
It’s exceedingly difficult to follow the “don’t insult the devs” rule right now… this thing has been out for years, and it wasn’t that tough years ago.

Yes, you can shoot on a KA50 and 52 and hit them. You got a Kill and then it is in Superman Mode. He can Kill several of Targets without get a new hit, can fly around enemy Span and kill all there because you can´t kill him. Because he is already dead but shooting.
I mean, if you kill the KA-50,52 let get them down there or pop off one of the Rotors or something. Problem is the two Rotor on the top and the simulation of an hit on the Tail, all other Copters are getting down. And no thats the same on the KA50,52 in real life, take a look at the reallife shoot downs.
And then there’s me slamming an ADATS Missile directly into the Ka-50 after hitting with prox hits twice before and it taking “engine damage” before landing on its pad and completely repairing.
This piece of trash is Gaijin shame… and they won’t even acknowledge how dumb it is.
I love hitting Ka-50/52 with multiple stingers and they just keep chugging along like nothing happens throwing rockets around with impunity.

well its not an issue with the ka 50, its an issue with helis in general. damage models of helicopters are blown out the door and they shouldnt survive certain specific damage and should survive other types.
for example, indirect explosive protection should be a bit more across the board but protection against apfsds should be way less.
the ka 50 shouldnt die due to loss of the tail since it dosent need the tail, neither does any other vertical twin blade helicopter need a tail.
It might be an issue with Helis at large…but it benefits the Ka-50/52 much more, by a large margin.
- My AH-64 cannot take a direct hit to the engine by anything and live.
- Do yourself a favor and take the AH-64 into the armor viewer and “shoot at it” with Machine guns and autocannons. Then do the exact same thing with Ka-50/52. The pilot is invincible.
KA-50 series has a really fat nose compared to all the other helicopters, and combined with the big armor plate/bulkhead at the end makes it effectively the best spaced-armor in the game. Also, I don’t think aircraft skin is modeled in the same way tank armor is so the rounds don’t riccochet upward when they hit the top of KA-50’s nose so they get eaten too.
What armor plate bulkhead? I’m not at my gaming rig at the moment, but I don’t remember an armor plate bulkhead in the nose.
