History.
The Magni Jona J.6 was a single-engine biplane trainer aircraft of the sesquiplane wing type built by the engineer Alberto Jona in 1934; it was an innovative aircraft due to the possibility of the upper wing being able to oscillate longitudinally, to better control the roll of the aircraft. The plane was built at Piero Magni in Taliedo and in 1935 it was presented at the 1st Milan Air Show. The following year the aircraft made its first flight and was registered with the military serial number MM313, given the interest of the Regia Aeronautica in this vehicle as a possible training aircraft. After subsequent tests at the Guidonia Experimental Center, the aircraft was passed on to an aeronautical pilot for sport and aerobatic flights while it was also registered with the civil registration number I-BONZ. After a few years the plane was given back to the designer due to the fact that interest in this plane had passed and Mr. Jona used it as a private plane until its mysterious disappearance in 1943. However, six militarized ones were ordered from this plane , named Jona J.6S. These planes, however, unlike their civil counterparts, were not equipped with a tilting wing. They were ordered in 1937 and in 1939 they were delivered to the Regia Aeronautica, and were assigned to the Centocelle General Staff Flight Department for liaison and transport duties for officers. Over time, one by one, the six planes were lost and after the end of the Second World War none of the examples survived. Engineer Jona ultimately decided to continue his work as an aeronautical consultant at a large company until his retirement between the 1960s and 1970s.
Armaments and propulsion.
The plane was powered by a 250 HP Alfa Romeo D2 C.30 engine with compressor, which allowed the plane to reach a maximum speed of 250 km/h with a modest autonomy of 7 hours and a ceiling of 8,000 meters.
Furthermore, the aircraft was equipped with a 7.7 mm Breda-SAFAT gun placed in the nose and firing through the propeller.
