Can’t speak for sim specfically but if you leave a match before its over the results screen will show a deficit if you spent more SL than earned on the match, but if you check the final results in your messages after it’s over it should show 0 SL if you have premium. Can be kind of confusing.
Right now (or at least yesterday if the bracket hasn’t changed yet): M2000C F14A
The F4S can dominate the matches at max br 11.3 without problem (i have done that but also faced that in the mig23)
The F5E is a good contender if played right.
I play a lot the MiG23 and I have seen some F4Es players doing very well, with KD ratio above 2 easily.
The problem in general is that F4s players use their phantoms as bombers and don’t even try to fight back, just to farm. And if the match manages to get, maybe 8 vs 8 people and half of them are bombers, they tend to quit very quickly leaving the other players at a disadvantage. At br max 11.0 (where the mig 23 is top tier) most of the red players are fighters while most of the blue players are bombers, I´ve even seen some A10 doing better than those F4E/C bombers.

No individual plane dominates in Sim. If you see one doing well it is the pilot making it happen not the jet. You can make the F-4E work just as well as the MiG-23s, PD phantoms or Mirages.
f5e with its 2 rear aspect missiles is surely in a worse spot than a mig23 that can shoot people down BVR
Not really. F-5E beats the brakes off of most things once you get to the merge. It’s very easy to sneak or just fly low and reach that point.
Ah yes! We were both right!
I was refunded for everything, but I had 2 teamkills. How embarressing…
But my point still stands, if you’re not making silver lions, then you are in debt, since you have to buy modules and vehicles. It will always be in the negative factor and they should buff the rewards and/or remove the ‘useful’ action cap.
It would help to give us more than cheap 100SL for a kill. And lower the absurdly high spawn costs. In some jets you barely cover the spawn with a capped useful action period. How is this supposed to work in a PvP game?
No wonder the pve lobbies came up. Gaijin is doing their best to encourage people to not fight each other.
Maybe they should rename the whole thing to Peace Thunder.
Yeah exactly.
I also commented on the post made by Stona, about banning botters/abusers in SIM, where I pointed out that they should maybe look into WHY they’re trying to abuse the system, it isn’t because its too easy to earn points/SL/RP.
The years of neglect of the SIM gamemode is obvious and should be adressed ASAP.
I use J-7E in the same bracket at F-16 when they still 12.0 during early days in Apex Predator era. I still whoop their asses out with PL-5Bs and dog fighting.
Ofc I did and will never win fighting BVR, but once merging it’s just a death sentence for those F-16. Similar case to those pesky 23ML or F-4s, they may have more missiles than me but sure as hell they can’t turn.
F-104S ASA is the 23ML killer, you go allways over Mach 1 on the deck, spot them, and send an AIM-9L on head-on…
As some people said already, many people bypass everything and go to premium jets, so 23ML pilots are bad in the majority.
Viggen good too. I just unlocked the Kfir-C7, have to try that. Mirage 2000D-R1 also stomps 23MLs.
If you only have USA, hmmm, bad thing. F-5E can beat them on a dogfight, and F-4J can AIM-7F the ones that go high, but nothing really good, you deppend on the team.
In UK we could use the Gr7, but now not really good options at 11.0 and 11.3, and Japan is the worst country at those BRs.
Only if the 23MLs fly high, if they fly low, you have no chance.
I quoted the message of @warthogboy09, it’s one of the best answers.
I’m not denying that some are easier if they outperform the enemy in multiple ways. And, also, its very useful to play or at least try the possible aircraft you’ll face as you will understand your weakness and strengths. Not mandatory but very useful to develop tactics.
I bypassed almost all the jets, and I think I’m not that bad in all those premium aircrafts. Lol, I’m still at tier 5 or 6 for most nations and not planning to play with non premiums at EC, except top tiers like the F16s, cause the bad economy of the game at those tiers, only for CA and if they have some great armament against ground forces like the F5E or A10s to fight the Tunguskas or helicopters.
Imho, the problem is the lack of knowledge of how to fight (BFM and ACM) and BVR to WVR, and that applies to almost all tiers, not only jets. Which I think was the main topic xD, @WalletWarrior69 you could search those topics, there’s a lot of info out there. I recommend you search for ex-military pilots and/or DCS (some IL2) pilots for that info, not saying that Warthunder players don’t have useful videos but it’s going to be harder as a lot of them are mainly RB tactics or very specific cases with very specific answers, but merges can change very quickly, like chess/shogi match or dancing.
Greetings
It’s not mandatory to fly every plane in the TT, if you know the bases from other sims, of course you get it fast in WT top tier
