The aim-9X has 90 degree of boresight capability, the IRIS-T has a 360 degree off boresight capability. it can literally shoot down missiles chasing you.
the IRIS-T also has several variants, so it depends on which one people are referring to (i think one even has a combined dual radar/IR seeker) but i’ve seen a couple of people mistake the ground launched variant for the A2A variant.
