Japanese type 87 RCV (P) unusable in current balance due to very weak modeled 20mm HVAP

So the Type 87 RCV Prototype is a massive pain in the ass, I feel like this vehicle is in a very bad place. It is essentially in the same BR bracket as the BTR-80 (0.3 lower even), but is worse in any aspect.

Main weakness is the 20mm autocannon with HVAP belt, shell shattered 80% of the time, weak pen at max 57mm, in mixed belt with HE. APDS is not unlocked until tier 4 modification, which is just insane to me, as the main gun is unusable until APDS is unlocked. Even with APDS it cuts out at 66mm pen, where this is not bad for a 20mm, but mainly poorly usable in it’s BR bracket due to shell shattered. This belt is also mixed with 25% HE.

More Negatives:
-Weak armor, not .50 proof
-Sluggish mobility, even though the max speed should be 100 km/h, you never hit it due to poor acceleration and sluggish agility
-No LRF, no thermal, no extra’s
-Low ammo belt count of 100 rounds, given the rate of fire (1030 RPM)
-Long reload of the belt (10.4s)

Neutrals:
-Average gun depression of 10 degrees
-Max turret rotation of 42 degrees/s, so not great
-5 crew members, doesn’t add anything as you will be pennes by any weapon large than 7.7mm caliber

Positives:
-It can scout, such as almost any other light tank
Edit: -The gun is indeed stabilized

Gaijin please buff, this thing makes me go bald…

Yeah, but vehicles are balanced based on their spaded potential, stock grinds for everything suck. Still a pretty mid vehicle in any case, I could see it going down in br

Best 9.0 in the game btw

no the 9.0 has the 25mm, the RCV (P) is like 7.7 and is stabilised

7.7 light scout vehicle, not abnormal

most light tanks with high top speeds, especially wheeled vehicles rarely hit them unless you drive in a straight line for ages

youre at 7.7 bro what do you want

im sorry 10 degrees is not average, its good

you compare it to the btr80a but the btr80a has all the same issues with much worse gun handling and is unstabilised and slower

My bad

What ?
RCV has full stabilization, better mobility, gun handling, gun depression, fire rate and is smaller.
Other than that, it gets weaker APDS than BTR-80A.

It being a BR step higher is completely fair.

just let gaijin add APDS to the stock belt and i think it will be fine

I have to agree this thing is absolute trash and should not be anywhere near 7.7, I would take the bulldog at 6.0 (AB) over this thing any day. How it’s at 7.7 when it’s gun is just pathetically weak, the shells constantly shatter, and the amount of ammo per belt means you spend more time reloading than doing damage to anything. It needs moving down.

HVAP and early APDS just needs an overhaul

ya about that, german 20mm apds is special. its a side grade of hvap and not an upgrade.

also it isnt just weaker apds, its anemic apds, the german 20mm apds is on par with russian 30mm APi, the stock belt of the btr 80 is slightly worse than the 20mm apds, let alone the fact the 30mm apds is about 20-30% better.

its the reason why the marders, luchs and type 87proto are considered the worst ifvs in the game, they struggle against lightly armoured vehicles. if gaijin fixes dm 63 it would help, but realistically all of these 20mm vehicles should drop in br, atleast the marders should.

I mean it uses 5.3 AA (sub I-II) belts…what did you expect…i stopped spading it when i realized that it cannot pen leo 1 from side. Imagine facing T-series…
asdddd
the stats are saying its doin baad

it also doesnt help japan just doesnt have any lineups for it to run with, youre either uptiering 7.3 (which while i do absolutely love, cant really handle 7.7 matchmaking) or moving the type 87 to 8.3, where stabs are commonish and you will get your face smashed in.

My mind can’t comprehend that the 7.7 has stab and 9.0 has fu*kall lol.

thats because the prototype used a later version of the rh202 which had access to a stab (its the reason why marders years ago had a stab, they shouldve never lost it tbh) where as the 25mm the production version just never got the stab. because japan

Which is fine considering all other benefits RCV gets over BTR.

I’m sorry but what are you smoking? In what world is the 30mm APDS of the BTR-80A worse? Fire rate doesn’t do jack when the shell doesn’t pen or doesn’t spall. Within your reasoning the .50 is better than the 30mm on the btr80 because it has a higher fire rate.

Gun handling is average at best, and size really doesn’t matter except when it is extreme like the L3.

Yeah imagine slapping a 5.3 autocannon on a slightly better chassis and calling it a day at 7.7. Gaijin balancing. 10/10 would balance again.

20mm APDS lacks 6 to 8 mms of penetration as well as it still erroneously uses the HVAP damage drop per distance chart. It is a known inaccuracy yet still not addressed.

It is an understatement that light tanks are rarely .50 proof, most of them are, a few are not. The type 87 RCV P isn’t even .50 proof to the front.

What I expect at 7.7? A lot more tbh, the VIDAR is 8.0 and has late gen thermal + LRF. Just to state an example.
