It does not. The only outright flat pieces are the ones to either side of the gun and top right next to the MG port - vs the entire JT’s superstructure.
As for angles, the JT’s UFP and LFP are completely constant aside from the MG port. Most of the Tortoise’s armor is cast and has almost no flat, even parts (or those that it has are 300mm+).
Tortoise can probably pen it, with some luck and getting close - or just shoot through the LFP, through transmission (because solid shot) and into the crew. So can the high caliber AP slingers (namely the very common T34) straight through the casemate, and pretty much every APDS/HEATFS shooter out there.
We are talking ramming distance close lol. Not to mention it’ll only tingle the crew if it does pen coz the solid shot needs to have excess kinetic energy to do damage, which is why it is a slightly underpowered gun at this br with all these heavies and chunks of metals about.
It’s a super fine 6.7 in my opinion. But maybe at 7.0 it’ll be very niche and not playable anywhere else besides a downtier so yeah rn I’m not trying to bump it up in br. I’m just making a case of the tortoise moving down comparing it to the jagdtiger and t28. And I’ve been mentioning it more often as of the last few comments but ig once u get the germans going there’s no stopping them.
Also the jagdtiger’s armor in is nowhere near as unimpressive as you make it out to be, sure sabots can tpen these things but the damage is minimal considering sabots are kinetic rounds and need extra pen to do damage. Also there are hardly any sabots around 6.7 that can harm the jagdtiger consistently. Maybe the bulldog and the charioteer in face to face engagements but they would also need to be close to do it reliably. And they are only few out of the many tanks at around this br.
And again I’d make it my point that aphe is more reliable in damage than solid shot, add to this fact the armor weakspots, the tortoise does not belong at 6.7 to be nearly as effective as the jagdtiger, even at 6.3 the tortoise will have the same weakspots, the same guns will be able to pen it in the exact same manner, jut that the tortoise will no longer face the 7.7 abominations that it has no business facing. As it stands now it is only effective in downtiers and only when the opponent doesn’t know where to shoot. Also as for the heavies you’ll face you are still shooting them at the exact spots everyone else is shooting at. Comparing the tortoise’s gun to the long 88, it is almost similar maybe less effective, again due to solid shot being kinetic projectile and the presence of fuel tanks and crews.
Why didn’t they change aphe and sabot together. As it stands now they made one “realistic” while the other is a 100% killshot. The balance is needed maybe bump it up again when the aphe changes come along but we don’t know when it’ll happen if ever.
We are supposed to have the live server test for new aphe at some point. I suspect they are waiting until after the holiday season. After that, there isnt much going on so it would be a decent time to run the test.
I just hope that it gets enough votes to be added to regular mm. The change would be welcomed by a good number of tanks.
Considering the enemies you face it is an okay round. You still shooting the same weakspots as everyone else but the fact that aphe one-shots at those spots while you are not sure if it can reliably take out the gunner to save ur life.
