I have 350 matches in the Su-39. It gets 2 R-73’s and I can assure you they are not free kills.
They are less likely to go for flares than something like an Aim-9L, but they are not 2 free kills, especially not on the Su-25 or Su-39.
R-73’s will go for flares even fired directly in rear aspect very often.

I MAIN SWEDEN I play a lot of their vehicles. So yes my Viggen will have a better KD than some vehicles I don’t play as much as when I was new to air.

Nah I like R73 but I’ll be honest slow platforms can’t fully utilize it. Especially at 11.3 on the Su-25 with no HMD. Most kills come from people who are oblivious to your presence or genuinely think they are gonna beat me in a head on gun dual. Seriously the Soviet 30mm slaps on the Mig-27 and Su-25s

They work fine on the Su-27 and aircraft like that. On the Su-25 and 39 though, they aren’t good.

Their IRCCM works less effectively when the missile has less energy and more distance to close because it’s being fired from a slower platform. Also means it can see more flares in that time frame.
Eh depends if you know there’s a Su-25 with a R73 nearby you should be cautious and keep distance unless you know you can beat them, most vehicles can handle them, hell I know I can since I’ve played them and know their weaknesses.
I’d say most peeps who get knocked out by a R73 from them either lead the missile to them by improperly flarings and dodging or genuinely didn’t see it. It’s a solid missile but the chassis leaves a lot to be desired.

Seriously though if someone’s pre flaring you’re very unlikely to hit even with after burner but sometimes they can guide the missile back to them. Personally I’m not the biggest fan of close range gimmick missiles on the Su-25T, it’s one of the reasons I’m skeptical about trying to spade the SM3 Since it loses the R60M and is only stuck using the R73 for defense. Though I’ve seen people get kills with the ATGMs so it might be fun to screw around with.
