JA37C at BR 11.3?

Can someone explain to me why the JA37C sits at a battle rating of 11.3? The best I can compare it to is the phantom or Mig 23.

The JA37C has both doppler radar allowing for locking on target at low altitude and RB72 (Dogfight) which are better than most missiles at it’s BR and lower.

It has enough speed to boom and zoom aircraft and carries a respectable amount of RB24Js.

I’m wondering what makes this aircraft allowable at the battle rating of 11.3? Compared to a lot of other aircraft I’m finding hard to understand why this one is allowed at 11.3 with its capabilities.

Please leave the nonsense out, I want to hear peoples actual thoughts who have played multiple nations and can weigh in without some rambling about russian bias or sharkstat nonsense.

Even worse RWR than Spo-10

Lacks all aspect ir missiles. Aim-9P are equal to R-60s in my opinion, better range but less maneuverability. But R-60M is all aspect

They are largely just Aim-7E-2s found on something like the F-4E at the same BR and it only gets 2 of them. The only major advantage on the Viggen C is the PD radar.

As an overall platform, its actually not that strong.

LCMs, but limited count (40 iirc?)

Very weak RWR

The FM is okay, but really not that good.

IR missiles arent that strong.

Compared directly to something like the Mig-23MLD at 11.7, it stands no chance at all.

At the end of the day, its just compression. Its not good enough to go higher, but it should probably go higher.

GIven its a rare aircraft to see anyone actually in, I think its the lesser of the 2 evils to have it at 11.3.

For the average person who plays a plane like this, it is usually more intuitive and easier to get kills with than F-4E and MiG-23MLA/MLD, mostly cause of it’s high speed/accel and it’s PD radar.

Are they one pops?

missile diamonds

I doubt that very much

I dont know. Think so?

Only visible within certain ranges and if the motor is burning.

Doesnt provide much warning against anything fired from further away, and by the time they’ve fired, like say an R–24R at 8km, its too late to notch.

RWRs dont just tell you someone has fired, it tells you someone is preparing to fire.

The RWR is an issue but at that BR most are still IR missiles for rear aspect or All aspect only for Strike aircraft. The lack of all aspect I would expect espically since some aircraft sitting at 11.3 only get guns or rear aspect missiles still.

Compression sure but at 11.3 if those RB72s are comparable to the AIm 7E 2s, the radar itself being able to clock at low altitude is difficult to evade at a headon from a distance as chaff and flares while maneuvering have been an instant kill. The Mig23 has an okay radar but sits at BR 11.7

Mig-23 sits at 11.7 because:

  • It has the better RWR
  • It has More CMs
  • It has the better FM (certainly the higher top speed)
  • It has All-aspect IR missiles
  • It has the better SARH missiles (best below 12.0) or very potent longer ranged IR missiles (some of the better non-IRCCM in-game) .

There is a reason why the Mig-23 sits higher even though it has the MTI radar instead of full PD.

Skyflash DFs are pretty weak though when fired from any meaningful range, and fairly easy to kinematically defeat. Thats not even mentioning MP nullifying that strength rather notably anyway

Not even PD so radar notching isn’t even valid

Just dropping chaff though doesnt work. R-24R will still kill you.

And then lets move on from the Mig-23MLD. What about basically anything at 12.0 or higher.

All roads lead to decompression.

Pre chaff, but chaffing after launch is death

Yup.

Personally, I find the Mig-23ML more of a nuisance, especially in an uptier, than the Viggen C which I rarely ever see. But its likewise stuck at 11.7 instead of going up

Right? So if your RWR is very weak. How do you necessarily know you need to pre-chaff? Especially if you dont have much chaff. Maybe only 15-20 on the Viggen C?

Like sure, in something like the Tornado IDS, i’ll start dumping all 1200 Large Chaff if I see an M23 lock me, but not something you can do in the Viggen C

Who knows

Sure

Basically a non-swing wing MiG-23. Two radar missiles, and 4 rear aspects. Still slower than the MiG-23, drains energy like crazy, and the gun is very mediocre without tracers (don’t scream ‘but ballistic computer’ because it’s not feasible in a dogfight!)

Not to mention it’s 40 Large CM’s, do they work, yes. Are there enough, not really. The RWR is also 4 direction, 2 channel, absolute ass.

I use only stealth ammo so I wouldn’t know why tracers matter. However, it’s played by players with incredible speed compared to 11.3 and lower so its able to flank a lot faster. The Mig 23 sits at 11.7 overall so my experience with them is only at high altitude.

The SAPHEI is actually the best round to use. It’s not particularly hard to aim, it’s just hard to learn for newer players, and makes them more likely to not want to play it, so the BR partially compensates that.

I think at this point I just need to spade it and see how good it actually is. I’ve neglected forever ago and never grinded it minus unlocking for top tier grippen

JA37C has an awful airframe.
Its PD radar is why it’s 11.3 instead of 10.7 - 11.0.
AIM-9Js as backup missiles, and Skyflash-like missiles as its only radar missile option.

Mig-23ML is faster while offering similar missiles & still a strong radar.
