Why? both win dogfights against 99% of what they face but the J-7E is also much faster and has pretty much equal tier missiles (considering half the F-5’s missiles are all aspect 9Ps)
isnt the F5FCU only a F5E its pretty easy to beat them in a J7E in 1v1 as long as your a good shot
Sure? Do you realize this still means the F-5 beats 98%? My point was that both are beating everything else in that department. I wasn’t comparing them to each other.

J7E is the loop master but this usually means prolonged fights (it does always win unless 3rd partied)
Enemy dodges, miss shots, loop.repeat.
Reminds me of the mig19- great jet but takes too long to get the kill shot- which is why jets like the f100a are used more and thought of higher by most.

I mean I’ve gotten into like a 1v1 with F5 about 10 times now, it almost always ends up in a stalemate. J-7E tends to loose energy too fast for u to take out the F-5 in time, and then once energy drops low F-5 has the advantage, but since I can always take a slight break and still hang in the fight we just end up circling in the skies endlessly. Against other aircraft though I’d agree J-7E’s speed advantage comes in very handy.

Unless the f5 rates horizontal at 900 and doesnt pull at all the J7E is winning.

As when slow its eats everything , inclusing F5s. On low fuel it will probably beat an f16 lol

J-7E doesn’t want the fight slow. Not a single delta wing wants it slow. They are optimal at 7-800 km, but the fights are almost never above prop speed, so F-5 does fine since he doesn’t need to worry about stalling. Also I just hate the fact that F-5’s heat signature is so tiny.
Optimal doesnt matter with the J7E . Thats my point it still pullls at stall like no other (especialy on low fuel) So get the F5 slow or any other jet really and it wins.
But this isnt best in an air RB setring as 3rd party stops the fun…which is why the F5 wins overall IMO
i was with you until you suggested legitimately any skill group considers the F-100 to be a higher tier plane than the MiG-19
PL-5B is unsuited for this task. It is one of the worst among same-BR counterparts (AIM-9L, R-60M, Magic 1) for maneuver off the rail; it has one of the lowest max fin AoAs, combined with a long delay after launch of 0.5s, and a fine-but-mediocre pre-launch gimbal limit of 25°. The most important aspect, however, is it’s unparalleled acceleration rate, which is great for time to target, not so much when fast angular change is required. The short-range performance of PL-5B is more like a rocket than a missile (it was even more dramatic on release).
So if the target isn’t flying near-straight, it’s almost impossible for you to hit at short range. In many situations where it would be successful, you might as well have used your gun (speaking of which, is mediocre overall, and vastly inferior to contemporary Western aircraft).
It’s very suited for the task, because as I just said you lead them the proper amount to where the missile is already preaimed at where it wants to be when it starts reacting.
Yes, this is addressed in my post. This strategy works for most missiles with 20+ G max overload, including the PL-5B; however, the PL-5B is not especially good at it. In fact, it’s below average, when considering all the factors and aforementioned characteristics involved.
It is, because its extremely fast off the rail and surprises people before they can flare, and when adequately led ahead of the target it won’t have issues hitting them

no the pl5 is also lighter by quite a bit
4.5kg. The delta v differs by like 80m/s. Which is hardly noticable in battles since more often than not the kinetics of carriers will make up for the 10%.
