Italian–Hungarian–Romanian Tech Tree: Pros and Cons

I think Italy could become a much more interesting and complete nation by combining Italian, Hungarian and Romanian vehicles into one expanded tech tree.

Romania already has vehicles represented in the Italian tree, and there have been several community proposals for an Italian–Hungarian–Romanian combination.

🇮🇹🇭🇺🇷🇴 Why this combination could work

Pros

  1. It would fill gaps in the Italian tree

Italy has some noticeable gaps at certain BRs. Hungarian and Romanian vehicles could provide additional lineups without having to create an entirely new nation.

  1. Lots of unique vehicles

Romania has more than just Soviet copy-paste equipment. Vehicles such as the TR-85, TR-85M1, MLI-84 and various Romanian modifications could give Italy a much more unique Eastern European character.

  1. Better variety

The three nations would offer very different gameplay:

  • 🇮🇹 Italian vehicles — fast, mobile and wheeled
  • 🇭🇺 Hungarian vehicles — a mixture of domestic designs and German/Soviet-derived equipment
  • 🇷🇴 Romanian vehicles — Soviet-influenced designs with significant domestic modifications

This could create one of the most diverse tech trees in the game.

  1. Romania would not need its own full tech tree

A standalone Romanian tree would have difficulty avoiding large amounts of copy-paste equipment. Putting Romania into Italy would allow Gaijin to focus mainly on the most interesting and unique Romanian vehicles.

  1. Italy could become a proper ‘minor European nations’ tree

Instead of being almost entirely dependent on Italian vehicles, Italy could become a larger Southern/Central European tree containing Italy, Hungary and Romania.

Cons

  1. The tree could become overcrowded

If too many Hungarian and Romanian vehicles were added, Italy could eventually become extremely large compared with other nations.

  1. Too much copy-paste

Romania operated many Soviet and Western vehicles. Adding every T-55, MiG-21, MiG-29 or American vehicle would make the subtree feel repetitive.

The solution would be to prioritize Romanian modifications and indigenous designs rather than simply adding foreign vehicles.

  1. Identity problem

Some players could argue that an Italian–Hungarian–Romanian tree lacks a clear national identity.

However, this problem already exists to some degree with multinational tech trees, so it is not necessarily a deal-breaker.

  1. Hungary could get overshadowed

If Romania received a large subtree while Hungary remained relatively small, Hungarian vehicles could become less visible inside the Italian tree.

  1. Some players would prefer separate Balkan/Eastern European trees

Another possible solution would be a future Romanian–Yugoslav or broader Eastern European tree. This would give Romania more room for its Soviet-derived and Balkan equipment. Similar proposals already exist in the community.

My conclusion

I think an Italian + Hungarian + Romanian tech tree would be more realistic than an independent Romanian tech tree.

The key is quality over quantity: don’t add every vehicle Romania operated. Add the vehicles that are genuinely Romanian, significantly modified, or necessary to create complete lineups.

That would give Italy a very unique identity:

🇮🇹 Italy + 🇭🇺 Hungary + 🇷🇴 Romania = a diverse European tech tree with Western, German and Eastern influences.

Personally, I think this would be a much better solution than creating a Romanian tree filled with copy-paste vehicles.

You can check my custom TTs, they need an update though:

And naval:

Hungary is already a full subtree, Romania is located in the Italian tree (with most of additions being premium or event so far unfortunately).

Dogshit idea. Gaijin will abuse for copy paste. Actual needed Italian vehicles will not be added because of that. Give gaijin excuses. Italy has nothing to do with Hungary or Romania.
Specific vehicles like a mod of Kf-41 with an OTO 105 can be added to Italy, but not some ridiculous shit like OSA and Strela, Romanian 9.0 event plane, etc.
Just as offensive and ridiculous as Serbia to USSR.
Gaijin is already doing it and we need to stop it with the force we can apply if necessary.

Pretty good idea, I mostly focus in air, and am romanian my self so this might be biased, for the air tt romania would most likely be added as filler rather then separate line, unless they get to the point they get to 6-wide techtrees amd its time for a second sub tree.

As for aircraft, at least for the modern-ish stuff we could get a copy paste F16AM similar if not exactly like the Norwegian one (historically speaking the newer RoAF F16s are ex-RNaF)

The Mig21 LanceR C being a modernization of the Mig similar to the premium Bison or the Israeli squadron Mig, it used python 3s, magic 2s and R73s

Then we have the IAR 99 Soim/Hawk bring a Trainer with strike capabilities, i cant really speak about this aircraft, but there is a suggestion topic about it,

IAR 330 is a licensed SA330 puma, i believe it is modernized and has an attack varient, again i cant speak about it that much because i didn’t do my research yet.

The IAR316 is in the game, but as an off sale premium for France.

IAR built more indigenous props during ww2, and for coldwar era jets we had Mig15s Mig19s that already are in the techtree but we had yak17s and yak23s

Also as props that arent in the trch tree yet, i can only think about the La-9 and IL-10

Romania would be a great subtree, especially for air

You don’t really need the 6th line, there are plenty of gaps in the tree which Romanian planes/tanks could cover.

Check my custom TTs, it needs to be updated, but you can get the main idea.

Top tier air would look smth like that:

Spoiler

It doesn’t have arrows, it’s made by changing html, just for showcase.

LanceRs were built from MFs though, so in terms of flight performance they would be worse.

There are 2 variants with very different armament options:

Should be reintroduced into Italian TT as all the other Romanian premiums, idk why Gaijin is still sleeping on this.
There is a more interesting design btw which could be added:

Some of existing Hungarian jets should get Romanian skins.
Some of Romanian planes ended up being event/premium, but there are still other variants which could be added into the regular tree: IAR-80/81 and IAR-93A/MB.
There are also JRS-79s, license-built and modified SM.79B; early props like SET-7, Romanian variants of PZL P.11 and P.24, IAR-37, IAR-45, IAR-15/16.
