Really curious if there is anyone who feels this has any added value, just seems like a waste of time.
Yet in GRB everyone gets airspawn when they should get airfield spawn.
It is a massive waste of time, and I hate being told “go to arcade” when I say it is not needed.
It does not add anything to the game except for 2–5 minutes of dead time when nothing is happening. The city map used to have an airspawn, and it was great, now it is just another generic air map.
I only think that heavy bombers that are unable to climb to their operating altitude should have an airspawn. Nothing else other than them though.
What added value does this have for you?
Just makes them playable overall because some of them with heavy bombloads can’t take off because of the short dirt runways. Plus they can’t gain any altitude most of the time because there isn’t enough space or time to climb in them. I see more value in having planes start at the airfield, but bombers would be even more useless than they are no if they didn’t get an airspawn.
Right, but what value is there for fighters to start on the airfield.
Ahh, sorry. I just see it as the natural starting point for RB modes. I think it would help CAS not be quite as crazy in GRB (because of less energy/speed/alt) and it would level the field for all other aircraft in ARB because then fighters and interceptors could climbg while strikers stay low for ground kills.
It just seems to unnecessarily waste everyone’s time with getting up to speed and taking off, getting up to speed over and over and over when there are maps with air spawns that bypass all the nonsense.
Different planes could just have different altitudes at spawn to compensate, even though the airspawn for bombers never made a difference.
It gives everyone a chance to talk s#it and spam “Attack the D Point!”. Oh and its very convenient for teamkilling.
But seriously, ground start is more strategic. Fighters have to decide to climb to altitude or run in at low level.
Airstart bombers and interceptors seem to be intended to be a different sub-game within the session, since ground start fighters usually can’t catch them unless the bomber dive right in at bases.
Everyone airstarting just turns RB into the same thing as AB furballs.
What is strategic about a ground vs airspawn… it just removes the first minute of wasted time and then it’s identical to airspawn, minus having people crash and TK as much.
Fair point. I wouldn’t really mind an airspawn at all if the altitudes were adjusted appropriately.
If they spread players out via an airspawn, id be fine with starting out in an airspawn in Air RB. I just wouldnt want everyone airspawning into a tiny spot because it would just encourage more of a furball.
Ideally Gaijin would add RB EC back as a separate mode to provide longer form gameplay for people who dont want to play Sim but we’ll see if that ever happens. An RB EC could maintain airfield takeoff.
An airfield spawn doesn’t spread out players at all either though, but might be nice if an airspawn would do that so people don’t play the exact same way every single time.

Aerial combat in props is basically a competition of getting the initiative in a fight. The plane with the higher energy state is able to dictate & dominate a fight. The sole purpose of an airfield spawn is to prepare the upcoming fight by getting into a more favorable position than the enemy.
-
Current airspawns are either based on balancing decisions, needed for intended roles and assigned targets & tasks or simply based on combat effectiveness - so individual airspawn altitudes are not bad in theory, but rather complicated to monitor and adjust.
-
In addition the ability to take off, choosing the correct (=optimal) climb speed and ensure a favorable initial positioning before a fight is called skill.
-
If guys are impatient to invest this time - they might fly top tier jets or arcade props.

Applying the same logic to Ground RB - there is no need for a map - just let both teams spawn in 2 lines on a flat field and play last man standing…
Nothing changes with an airspawn, I’m not saying to spawn at 5km altitude, just to spawn 200m above the airfield.
This makes your time argument totally invalid.
Players unable to take off without a crash might consider playing Lego. Team killers are not game play related.
No idea what you want to achieve with this thread.

It takes enough time to go from a stand still to flying at altitude and speed, wasted time that adds zero value to the experience, time you waste every single game, hundreds if not thousands of times you’re doing it.

Both affect gameplay directly.

Imagine not understanding why someone would ask a question.
Dude - you have ~ 1.200 Air RB matches…
You are not asking questions - you bring your Ground RB airspawn topic into Air RB…

Pretty sure I asked a question.
