Is there any reason for this level of discrepancy between uptier/downtiers?

I had a feeling I’ve been getting more uptiers than I do downtier for a while, and you know I feel that’s normal for everyone to feel that way. So, I got bored and actually counted. I don’t mind uptiers, but I feel like it’s silly that there’s this much of a difference between the chances of getting either of them. Is there some sort of template system similar to world of tanks with their 3/5/7 system that I’m unaware of that leads to this? Because this is more than just chance, the sample size is large enough to rule out a string of bad luck. I understand that certain BRs will make a differnece, but this sample includes a variety of BRs to try and account for that.

I am not really sure if you are used to work with large data, but in order to draw any conclusions the confidence level of your own data collection is decisive.

In addition to the ratio of sample size vs total numbers of matches (which is imho unknown) you would also have to consider changes within the MM during the day (which happens), variations of player experience which has an impact on vehicle choices (and therefore subsequently BRs) and you would have to consider the same stuff whilst playing on other servers.

Therefore: Good luck with your project!

PS: I flew 2 or 3 years ago the 5.0 Italian P-47 D-30. 85% full uptiers thx to Ju 288s and 15% full downtiers thx to the Italian BP 109 F-4 - for almost 300 matches. Not a single partial up-/downtier 😁

What do you mean by this? I’m not sure I understand. As for times of day, I spend way more time than I should on this game, so all of the battles I recorded were over the course of only 3 days during all times of day.

Yeah that sound brutal. I stopped playing 5.0 - 6.0 entirely around the same time specifically because of the 288 spam ruining that bracket.

Currently i see 180k players in 3k battles - meaning that even if you play around the clock for ages the number of your personal matches is way too small compared to the total number of all other players together.

It is not impossible to come with a small sample size to a high confidence level (look at a certain nation and their discussed election polls) but rather complicated as you have to make certain assumptions.

There are a hell of very smart people active in this forum presenting similar analysis. You might consider using the search function and look at their results with similar topics.

Sounds strange but i enjoyed ~ 60% of those matches. In 40% of the matches my German team was dead before i was at 4-5 km alt, so i left. But the other 60% were quite entertaining.

Yes there is quantitive matchmaker. There can be only 4 players with top BR in given match (unless it is top tier that rule does not apply). Unless it was changed.

Second thing is there are “void” BRs in game. BRs that will suck you up no matter what because they are super popular. Like for ground realistic:
4.0
5.3
6.7
8.3
9.3
10.7
and finally top tier 12.0

If you play in -1 BR of those you will end up in full uptiers most of the time. Just because those are most popular BR ranges, there is a lot of premiums around said BRs and people play them to avoid next popular BR. So people will congragate around 4.0 to avoid fighting 5.3 tanks which is another high volume BR. The closer you get to popular BR the more normal spread will be.

Ah okay, yeah that makes sense. Thank you.

This also makes sense, thank you * 2.

Uptiers should account for at least 75% of matches.

And playing popular BRs can easily increase that to 90%.
The more popular a BR, the more likely the uptiers; all due to the 4 player limit of full uptier players per team.

Uptiers are a predictable thing all due to the 4 player limit.

A best ground BR: 9.3, also gets the most uptiers.
A best air BR: 12.0, also gets the most uptiers.
The best BRs will get more uptiers because they are healthy BRs to play.

This is why we need rotation matchmaker like sim instead of the current matchmaker dependent on the popularity of the BR. Uptier or downtier should be optional.
