Is the Battle pass worth it?

That’s not a bad premise for a bit of Analysis.

It would be interesting to compare the number of ground kills scored by aircraft in a match compared with different combinations of SPAA.

for example:

  • No SPAA
  • 1 - 10 SPAA Spawned
  • Avg Lifespan of SPAA in matches where aircraft spawned
  • Max no. of SPAA spawned at the same time
  • Ratio of SPAA to non SPAA

That’s a hard one, I’m not prepared to comment on the Quality of Naval Vehicles as I have very limited experience.

I will however say that I’ve accumulated a number of boats over the course of events and battle passes and they’re fun to play. I wouldn’t say they’re particularly OP but I really appreciate having a few premium boats to fall back on when I need a break from Ground RB, they’re great at making money and some of the battles can be quite engaging.

P.S. I would like to Add, that it’s nice having some battle passes that you can afford to pass up. In the beginning there was some serious FOMO as the vehicles that were coming out where quite Niche and Very Competitive. I rarely play the VT 1-2 but I think it’s a super cool tank and It was really important for me to nab it. Same with the German Bomber with cruise missiles. However, if you look at all the complaints, it’s easy to see that players aren’t managing their expectations very well and are burning themselves out trying to grind events and are coming to the forums to vent their frustrations about the battle pass whether it’s shitty vehicles, lack of originality, or the daily tasks being too grindy. I tend to ignore those crititcisms as they basically boil down to players not playing for fun but instead playing to grind.

I am usually finding it’s the people saying “skill issue” that refuse to fight. I challenge, and then they mute or block me. Quite a shame.

A boat is a boat, it shoots big rounds and tanks big rounds. Not really impressive, but I will take it because free boat.

Thanks for your opinion which was helpful to think wider.

My first impression of that boat was
Not mediocre, but quite a lame concept compared to older coastal rewards

  • Soviet torpedo boat in egypt, which got rid of torpedos but mounted BM21 MLRS instead
  • US Coastal boat which uses M551 turret as a main gun

For me, in overall battlepass,
last one and this one felt somewhat lamest BP ever I’ve seen if we consider ‘funny’ side only.
It would be great if those French M46 or Thai helldiver had some extra features like the Churchill flame tank.

I believe you.
Toxicity lines both lanes of the road after all.
People are so addicted to toxicity when I compliment a team, someone out there thinks that’s me saying “skill issue” to the losing team when it’s just a compliment on the other team doing well…

The more toxicity I see the more I feel obligated to defend the good.

The Battle Pass clearly does not interest you.

All I’m saying to you is be honest about the facts, and at the end say what you actually feel.

I will support your standpoint irrelevant of what it is so long as it acknowledges the facts, and there are others that’ll do the same.

I like this upcoming BP, cool T-44.
I liked the previous BP despite the model potentially being copy-paste.
I heavily dislike the BMP series of tanks, but I won’t call the unique ones copy paste, I’ll just say I hate their looks and that’s why I dislike them; my honest perspective.

I get that, I’m just tired of Gaijin’s laziness. They would rather make money than fix this game, which is my main gripe.

Just to re-iterate, It’s nice when the battle passes are interesting, but at the same time the battle passes are never ending. While I think I’m good enough at managing my expectations when playing war thunder and reminding myself to play for fun. I like the occiasional dud battle pass, or one that’s not relevant to me so I can enjoy playing the game without being overly concerned about efficiency.

Sir, there are bug fix patches at least once a week, usually multiple times a week.
I once had Steam update 3 separate times in 6 hours one day and I got heavily annoyed at that.

Also without money the bug fixing team can’t get paid.

If they were good at their jobs, there wouldn’t be so many bugs to fix. I don’t know how old you are, but when I was young, we didn’t have twenty million bugs and an update once a week.

Yeah, for me, I think I don’t need to rush too much on this battle pass

And maybe I can try some other games like ‘Kingdom Comes 2’ in leftover times XD
Somewhat similar to 80 days of vacation?

How old are we talking here? Baldur’s Gate II, Age of Empires II or Ultima II. I played all of those growing and I think its fair to say that if you compared the scale of what the companies and their respective projects then, to what war thunder is doing in terms of scale and complexity, I feel they’d be fairly evenly matched.

I remember buying icewind dale II when it came out and then having to wait for what felt like an eternity for a patch that fixed a random gamebreaking crash in one of the first dungeons. Or the amount of games that never booted up at all due to hard/software incompatibilities. Worst thing still was there were hardly any bulletin boards or forums discussing fixes. I remember reading magazines to find solutions to broken games that I had given up on only to enjoy them months or years after purchasing.

God of War, Resident Evil, and the Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga old.

Oh wow, you’re a baby, bum fluff for whiskers, yeah I can empathise with console players having certain expectations for video game stability but it comes at the massive hidden tax on scope, features and graphics.

Hey man, I just grew up poor. I didn’t have internet until 2012. My back, knees, and my right ear will tell you I’m not young… mainly it’ll tell you how bad it sucks being in a war without proper protection.

I give up man, I don’t even know what the f*ck we’re talking about anymore.

Same. All in all, as the meme goes, “your game is bad, you should feel bad”. Seriously, I might have nostalgia for old games, but I never saw this many bugs and glitches in old Call of Duty games, Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition, God of War 1-3, any of the old Lego games, Resident Evil, Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, the funny Temple game with the pixel chick, or any of my childhood games. Honestly, the fact there are so many bugs is reason alone to allow console players the ability to play Realistic and Sim with crossplay disabled.

To be honest, the general vibe I get from your topics and comments is more along the lines of “I feel bad, therefor the game is bad, and you should feel bad too”. I’m not a psychologist and I assume you know better than to take anything I say too seriously but I get the feeling that you’ve invested a fair bit of time into this game, and at somepoint along the way you stopped having fun but continued to play out of habit or some other reason, and it’s making you bitter and resentful. It’s easier to assume that the game changed for the worse as opposed to you changing and no longer finding the game enjoyable.

War Thunder has good things and it has bad things, but it rarely deserves all the abuse and backlash it gets because some people aren’t having as much fun as they think they should be.

P.S. I’m not trying to stick up for the game or defend it, it’s just that It’s almost impossible to have interesting and productive conversations about the game, it’s features, ideas and concepts when so many people insist on dragging it down into the shitty muck of unfulfilled dreams and resentment

Is the battle pass worth it? Doesn’t that simply translate to the question:
Can you afford the battle pass and actually buy it?

Imho, this is more a question of what is asked from me for what result. The 2000 GE are to me the least part of what is requested for the pass. I could have gotten it for free, but I didn’t feel like making the contribution time wise.

And here opinions may differ widely. I’d go for a rank3 3.0 plane anytime. Much better to me than a modern dutch light tank. I also like the new french boat reward. But in terms of value:
These things cost like 5 Gjn in the market. Why bother with the pass?

If you afford the pass regularly, you probably buy premium at the annual or semi-annual price. So it is worth about 200 GE. That is not a game changer.

Only that you often have them all. And the talismans rarely land where they are appreciated.

Of course, for a relatively new player, the pass may well be worth it. But personally, I just don’t like to commit the time when there is nothing in it that I want that I couldn’t get without committing the time.

One thing I haven’t been able to get out of my mind about battle passes as a whole, War Thunder in particular is that they’re essentially short selling us. They actively betting on player sunken cost, and having to shell out additional money to finish the battle pass that they already paid for.
