Is it just me or do the AIM-120s feel lackluster (apart from the D)

ever since the update that added the AIM-120D i have noticed that my AIM-120s seem to fail at things they used to do just fine at recently i have started playing the F-16D with derbys instead because the AMRAAM just seems to fail most of the time even at closer range (10-1km) they seem to either easily be notched or dont turn or dont track the target and also seem to have a bit of sparrow syndrome where they track complexly different targets then what i actually launched at whereas other missiles i have used like the derby seem to work just fine and even better than the AMRAAM ever was in some cases overall i think other nations that rarely get use their own or no other missiles to use than the AMRAAM like sweden and Israel should receive some buffs or in israels case just getting there own missile i understand that the AMRAAM is hard to balance because its on so many differant platforms with vastly different playstyles but please find a way to give these airframes thats playstyle clashes with the AMRAAMs use cases (F-16 JA37) something better to use for their playstyle like a better high off boresight missile

Ive not noticed any differences (though never used the Ds and it may simply be a case that the Ds feel a lot more reliable to you and so the A-C5s feel a lot worse in comparison)

But B/C5s need to be handheld, given every single chance to suceed. High launch speed (mach 1.4+), high alt launch (15k ft+), straight shot, Hard lock or AESA supported.

Fail to do all of the above and they are definetly lackluster

im using an airframe that very much clashes with that im using the F-16s which dont have an AESA and dont like to be high and fast which is why i said in the post i think they should buff the airframes that playstyle clashes with the AMRAAMs use cases

F-16D does not have AESA? I though it had AESA or was it F-16I?

The issue is… How?

Some are obvious, FA2, F3 Late, Viggen DI can all get buffed via them fixing BOL. F3 Late can also get Phimat and C5s if needed. But others? Like say the F4f ice… There just isn’t any possible buffs for them.

AMRAAM does need an overhaul, but it will still be kinematically weaker than most others

I thought only the pobit had AESA on the F16s, but could be wrong

F-16I doesnt get an ESA only the F-16CM pobit does however there is a varient of the F-16I IRL that does have the ESA and is the block 52 like the pobit idk why gaijin hasnt added it and had it at 14.3 like the pobit probably because people would be mad it didnt get python 4/5 and derby-I ER so they are waiting to add it

Not from my experience with RB-99’s

I’ve been having the same issue with the AIM-120C-5 on the F-18C Late. I’m not sure whether the problem is with the missile itself or if the F-18C’s radar is just struggling to get a proper lock.

The F-18C Late TWS isn’t the best TWS HDN and narrowing the beam helps

The 120C5’s aren’t that good either If you have access to the 120B’s use those, they are superior in nearly every aspect in a match under 50-60km. The C5s turn worse too.

I dont entirely agree with that. My experience is that in anything beyond 15ish km, the C5s do actually hold the advantage thanks to having a lot more Delta-V. How much of an advantage can certainly be debated, but an advantage nonetheless. They also gives them an advantage in rear-aspect shots (chasing someone). So, if you are tending to spend a lot of time in WVR (which for something like an F-18 might be the case), then the Bs are probably the better choice. If you tend to spend a lot of time in BVR, ideally high and fast (such as myself in the EFT) then the C5s are actually quite solid. The meta tactic though is probably to run a mix of both. (but im too lazy for that, so just run C5s)

Yep and that’s what I was talking about since that’s what I fly and what he was talking about.

B’s are more reliable for WVR. Having two C5’s for BVR isn’t a bad call either but with the (USA) 18C late you don’t have the CMs to really fool around in BVR that long. If you’re in BVR you’re also fighting jets that have more missiles and can uptier into AESA fights.

I was pretty excited to get the AV-8B Plus, but the Aim-120As are honestly just straight up worse than Sparrows.
