So, I was thinking about how much of a struggle some vehicles are when stock, and how they can go from udder garbage to wonders once fully upgraded. It made me wonder.
Should BRs for a vehicle change based on it’s modifications?
So to explain if a vehicle stock has the performance of a aircraft/tank at the br below. it should go there until it has unlocked either better ammo/missiles. That it would compare to the upper br.
Take these examples:
USA – AV-8B: Barely competitive stock, with limited missiles and no countermeasures. Fully upgraded, it’s a powerhouse.
Germany – Panther D: speed and turret traverse is painfully slow, but upgrades makes it much better.
USSR – T-44: Stock penetration is weak, but once upgraded, it’s a solid medium tank.
UK – Challenger 2: Starts without thermals or great ammo but becomes a monster fully spaded.
Japan – Ki-84 Hayate: Poor stock climb and engine power, but upgrades make it a standout prop.
Italy – G.91 R/1: Weak missiles and no countermeasures stock, but its great once fully upgraded.
France – AML-90: Sluggish stock mobility, but engine upgrades completely change it to a flanker.
Sweden – Strv 103(all): Feels awkward and slow at first, but upgrades make it a deadly sniper.
China – J-8B: Mediocre at first with bad missile options, but fully upgraded, it’s a serious threat.
Wouldn’t it make sense to adjust BRs dynamically based on a vehicle’s modification state? That way we wouldn’t have to “suffer” through a grind. I wonder if anyone else feels the same way.
Stock grind is the devils used underpants and while in other games, you are happy with every new vehicle, in WT it often feels like you got your right hand tied behind your back, because you have to learn how to play a new vehicle which often are severely gimped.
massive weakspots that result in one shots most of the time
huge profile making those weakspots even easier to hit
one of the weaker shells at top tier
Tiny (ahistorical) ready rack, meaning the CR2s have some of the worst sustained fire rates (also has one of the longest ready rack replenishment rates in game as well)
Ariete and Type 90 have less protection, but have better mobility, shells and fire rate.
As for the idea. Dynamic BRs are a good idea but should be for limited use cases. Like IRCCM or ARH missiles on certain aircraft.
For example.
Harrier Gr7 with 9Ls = 11.7
Harrier Gr7 with 9Ms = 12.3
Tornado F3 with 9Ls + Skyflash = 12.0
Tornado F3 with 9Ms + Skyflash = 12.3 ish
Tornado F3 with 9Ms + AMRAAM = 13.3
Tornado F3 with ASRAAM + AMRAAM = 14.0
Probably should be limited to 2 BRs and just have an option to enable/disable “advanced weapons” though
mitigates the repeated grind/stock grind for vehicles that purely change loadouts but are otherwise identical.
Going too crazy on how many BRs each vehicle has would just be a balancing nightmare and would just result in total confusion. Especially for tanks, it would be extra hard work.
Though to aid the stock grind, You could have a mechanic where the vehicle was 0.3 lower in BR and/or capped on what kind of uptiers it could see until you’ve unlocked (but to prevent abuse not necessarily purchased) your first tier 4 mod.
For ordnance specifically (shells, missiles, bombs, etc), yes. Should have been implemented ages ago. Would not only help with stock grinds, but would allow more lineup options too.
For performance mods (engine, turret rotation, fuselage repair, etc), absolutely not. This would just lead to cheesy abuse, unequipping one or two mods to get a lower BR, etc.
I thaught if this since not only is stock vehicle a pain to play, but teams with more stock vehicles always loose, so id say the fairness of matches depends on that alot and that does not feel fair
I like the idea, but only for weapon modifications. Cheese wedge having worse engine/traverse speed shouldn’t be a reason to deduct BR. Starting with HEAT-FS, or a subpar missile loadout, on a vehicle? sure.
This is just “F2P” rearing its ugly head unfortunately. Realistically, mods do absolutely nothing in terms of gameplay 99.99% of the time. Only one I can think of is removing ERA (like the CR2F) or a dozer blade.
In all other respects, mods are there for one thing and one thing only. Making money
Only if the upgrade entails a significant gameplay difference. For example, the UBH mod for the T-72B3 gives it side ERA bags and significantly beefs up the engine.
but i would be happy if they made the BR jumps smaller, 0.7 instead of 1.
Im playing France 7.7 and Japan 6.3 atm and its uptier after uptier, and it is getting rather shitty tbh.
spading a vehicles against vehicles you would struggle with full spaded is not good gameplay, but i guess it’s Gaijin try to make people buy premiums /shrug
