I’ve personally never hated the game more. they are claiming that they disabled them because of game ‘‘crashes’’ which is funny because i can’t find a single post on either this forum or reddit about someones game crashing due to sound mods. Have fun hearing an abrams sitting behind a wall with his engine on. You literally can’t hear him. All original gaijin sounds are absolutely trash.
Before removing this post, it checks all the requirements.

It is suspect, and even beyond the potential advantages gained by sound mods, things like aircraft specific RWR and correct VWS sound cues in aircraft just make everything sound a lot better. Ive hated playing aircraft, especially the Typhoon the past few weeks with sound mods disabled because it just sounds bad

In before the lock! Agree 100% or as Orange Mussolini would say…they’ll be ready in 2 weeks…we have a concept of a plan!

My conspiracy theory is that this is not just about crashes or technical issues. I think Gaijin may be preparing either to disable user-made sound mods entirely or to place heavy restrictions on them, possibly so they can later sell official approved sound packs.
World of Warships already does something similar. When you buy or unlock certain themed ships or commanders, such as Anime or Warhammer content, one of the selling points is custom voice options. I could easily see War Thunder doing the same thing with collaborations like Senrai Maidens x War Thunder, where custom commander voice lines become part of the paid package.
The problem is that if players can simply download and install those kinds of voice lines as sound mods, it heavily reduces the incentive to pay for them. So restricting user-made sound mods would conveniently protect that potential monetisation route.
I am not saying this is definitely what is happening, but from a business perspective it would make sense. Disable or restrict community-made sound mods first, then later introduce official, approved, monetised sound packs.

Maybe the introduction of Panorama expand in the latest update explains that, it’s a new sound logic, naturally no mod would be prepared for that which will certainly cause problems in-game so crashing as well; no one’s game has ever been crashing before this implementation and Gaijin is doing it because they’re envyous—War Thunder sounds are made to be useful not pleasing, if so they’ll be done better sounds a long time ago so instead remove the thin foil hat.
I love how the only noise an Abrams makes for me is just track sound on default audio.
Who knows what people are in contact with devs directly that are complaining about crashing issues. The only time I’ve ever had an issues with audio has been on the default audio. Like when people are rocket spamming with helicopters and it just cuts audio altogether. Or like mentioned abrams having no engine noise and just track noise.

Well, here I am at least. My game after update started to crash and I couldn’t understand why until I deleted sound mods. Then game started to work normally. Probably a lot of players met this problem and send auto reports after their game crashed so to not deal with each of them they decided to disable all sound mods
Disabling them for everyone was still stupid
