I recently got the T-34E at 4.0 from the SL-chest, that was exiciting. Less exciting is the fact it sits at rank 2. There are plenty of 3.7 vehicles at rank 3 and on the other hand plenty of 4.0 vehicles at rank 2. I find that bothersome. Has Gaijin made some official statement on their methodology for ranking vehicles?

I think it’s just economy. It doesn’t affect who you play with, but rewards in RP and SL.
Well yeah that and limits what dailys/specials/challenges you can complete.

However, you are able to complete events if you are on event vehicle.

Rank determines what you get stock, Rank VIII tanks get APFSDS stock while Tank VII only gets HEATFS. Challenges are locked behind the rank of a vehicle rather than BR sadly.
BR determines what vehicles you can see in the match ans its based off what Gaijoobles thinks your vehicle is capable of

I guess that makes sense, but what is the difference between rank 2 and 3 then? An example: sweden has that one spaa at rank 3, br 3.0. why are panzer 4’s at br 3.7 at rank 2?
thats my point. Why are some vehicles with lower br treated with higher rank than other vehicles? Thats what i find wierd and a little stupid to be fair.
Honestly I really don’t know what rank determines at lower BRs, I play Sweden a bit nowadays and at lower tiers rank is a little more connected to BR but ofc thats not the full case.
The Strv 74 is at rank IV despite being a 5.7 vehicle whereas rank IV is usually 6.7s

Don’t really know. To be honest, I think rank should be paired with BR because that would make sense at least (that was before, as I understand). Now it really determines only earnings and required RP and SL to unlock vehicle.

T34 Sweden compared to T34 Russia if my memory is right.Italy has Sherman and Panzer IV that are Tier 3 instead of two. Basically two different nations will have 3_BR but they will have two different tier settings . If all my line ups are 3-4 BR then Italy and Sweden need to be my go to for BP second task where tier 3 is a requirement.
Pz.IV H for Germany is rank 2 ,T34 1941 is rank 2 for Russia.Rank 3 for Sweden
I have played Two vehicles the same for Battle pass and not completed tasks because if this.Not realising same tanks were not the same tier.Copy paste nightmares combined with Gajin stupidity.

It is somewhat based what year the vechile was developed and what came after it. The brs are just based off the capability of the vechile. Even if the vechile was made earlier than another one it dosnt mean it is worst. (This is very prominent in the navel air in the us tt) Some stuff was made way later for a specific purpose that we don’t really have represented in war thunder. Like navel night fighters or planes with big cannons.
It isn’t, it’s just a loose system based on BRs. It has nothing to do with reality.

My “Favorite” is when a given BR’s lineup for tanks is spread across 2 different ranks. Amazing way to increase the grind needed to have a lineup.
British 7.7 comes to mind.
