Recently I’ve been losing all hope for War Thunder because every time I queue for a match in my F-5C premium I get put in with Mig-23s from 11.7. I know there’s supposed to be some kind of 75% uptier 25% downtier thing but Im not noticing it. The lowest ive gotten is 11.0. Also, I hate that I have to play against people who’ve been playing for years because Im still pretty new to the game, about a year now so Im not great at holding my own and having to play against people who’ve spaded basically everything in the entire game already is just about the most unfun thing I can think of. This happens at every single BR I play, 6.3, 9.3-7, 3.7, 10.7 etc. I just wish there was something in place to make it less impossible to grind for newer players who want to reach top tier and get something cool out of it instead of getting mercilessly slaughtered every single match I join. Even when I do hold my own well and start to gain an advantage one of their teammates just comes in and ruins it all. There’s just no winning with this game. At my current rate, I’ll make the 1 million RP I need by Summer 2026. And that’s not even mentioning the silver lions which are my biggest issue. If I talked about repair costs, this would be twice as long but Im leaving this topic as my dissatisfaction with the matchmaking. It’s also why top tier sucks so bad for players who just reached it.
Shouldn’t have bought a high tier premium, especially the F-5 which isnt very good.
Top tier plays very differently than lower BRs. You go from props with dog fighting to jets with dogfighting but also gotta look out for missiles and then you go to jets with barely any dogfighting but you gotta look out for a lot more missiles. In all cases you can get third partied and that’s solved by picking your fights correctly.
Unfortunately unless you get good by playing the game then you won’t be doing well. Also, I don’t know where you got the 75% uptiers and 25% downtiers thing. The matchmaker just puts you in matches where it can fill a whole lobby. And that is simply mostly uptiers because of the ungodly amount of premiums at and around the 11.7 mark.
I agree with the first part, not so much with the second one though. Buying a top tier premium isn’t the best choice of all. But calling the F-5C not very good is just false. Mind you I don’t have it. And I barely played it’s TT counterpart the F-5E. The F-5C is uh… Well. The missiles are the only downside really. 2 9E’s leave a lot to be desired. But can be good if used correctly. The F-5C, iirc, has countermeasures it never used, missiles it never used, a broken DM and a smaller than should be heat signature. It’s a very good dogfighter at horizontal fights. Just don’t think about vertical fights.
10.7 is a particularly rough matchmaker, you will definitely not get 25% downtiers. This is due to some factors:
- Few 9.7 and 10.0 planes. Few planes in this br and few players playing these. Hard to get downtiered if there isn’t many players to get downtiered to.
- Many 10.7 players (J-7D, F-5C). Meaning that you’ll be competing with a lot of players for the downtiers (max 4 players gets fully downtiered)
- An insane amount of Mig-23 players at 11.7 and plenty of 11.3 planes.
This is usually worst when there’s been recent sales (like now) where premiums like the mig-23 and J-7D are dominating the matchmaker.
However, you should not let that discourage you. Generally warthunder players are not that good, even level 100 players. It may feel plenty unfair to play against high level players, but war thunder is a game you can play for 1000 hours and still be bad at. It’s both bad for your mentality and false to think of level 100 players as good players.
the sale just ended, so there are a lot of ml’s and such roaming around, effectively turning the whole 10.7 - 12.7 matchmaking range into a permanent 11.7
I don’t think there’s a set percentage, just whatever game the matchmaking can put you in- it will.
Right, it’s totally random, only depends on the planes in the queue.
And with the bunch of spams we had more and more, the stupid battles with one team lacking higher tier planes is more and more common.
Why you have to play against everyone ? Because all servers are public.
There was a time some BRs were floated with Squads of 4 outstanding players. No chance against them. Their winrate was always near 100%. These era is over. So you are lucky.
GJN designs this game the way you have to suffer, so if you want to have success, you have to pay or play a lot.
Because the game is so complex, the learning curve is very flat. And with this “grinding” thing in your head it’s even more flat.
Uhh f-5c is literally BR of 10.3…
You shouldn’t be buying top rank vehicles when you are newbies because you will die very easily there because majority of the war thunder folks developed keen instincts that newbies won’t get unless they start from scratch…
Don’t do it, its a waste of time without learning the skills in air arcade or rb first… I will drop you some guide that helped me polish my shitty skills in air battle a bit.
But just as GI Joe said everytime…

Just practice flying in general by playing reserve tier planes which is least cost to free repairs :D
Its a fat lie. Just as I said before by that time folks reach high tiers, they already maxed out their important crew stats and their intuition on the game itself which is vital things you can develop when you start from scratch. After every battle, you receive crew points to buff your crews like handling g force better, improve stamina, vitality, repair speed, repair rank, reload speed, weapon maintenance, and etc…
Well now let see what you can do… you can try asking for refund if gaijin allows it. If they don’t, then don’t fret :D
You can buy planes I heard people recommend is american BF-109 and XP50 or any tier plane as long as its at or under rank 3 because rank 3 will be the place where there is newbies, meh competitive folks, and very competitive folks fight so you will have a chance to learn and practice :D
Dude the learning curve is so steep, take your time. There are so many nuanced things to understand about this game. Im 2 years deep, started playing air at the start of this year properly and Im only just getting half decent at it. ARB is particularly difficult to learn in with only 1 spawn, when your crap it can seem very tedious flying to battle to die instantly. But stick at it, each time you die ask your self why? What happened, should you have done something differently?
If you want some easier targets for now, learn what planes are premium, as there’s just been a sale they will most likely be piloted by people who have no clue what they’re doing also
