Is air assault dead?

For a while now I’ve been trying to get into air assault games maybe a couple of times a day just to see the queues having two to three people at most (myself included I guess). Does no one play this gamemode any more? I’d rather play PvE to get some modules reseached in my squadron vehicles since I’m terrible at planes and would likely just be cannon fodder in PvP.

The rewards in air assault arcade are abysmal. Go ground pounding in two or three regular air arcade games and you can get way more SL and RP for the same time spent in on AA game while also helping your team drain tickets. Doesn’t help that BR 6.7 and above in AA is HEAVILY compressed to the point of ludicrousness. If you decide to bring out an Me 262 or MiG-15 or so, you’ll be competing with an F-14A, Viggen C or early MiG-29 for bot kills. At lower BRs there are more newish players lowering the overall skill of team so you can’t always count on them. The AI gunners on the bombers you fight being being insanely accurate doesn’t help either.

yeah with my other account it was going well then suddenly i could not find any matches.

That’s the big problem, Gaijin cares so little about the mode the BR brackets have not been updated since they added the 1st jets. Except to cap it at max 12.7 BR cuz ARH missile are OP… But F-14s are still allowed in with ARHs, 13.0 SARH carriers are barred dispite not having ARHs and you can one shot a wave with a couple of TV ATGMs from an F-16 AJ, A10 or SU39 etc…

Well they haven’t entirely abandoned it, Arty on Norway has definitely been buffed… “yay…”

Don’t get me wrong, I like the new models.
But not adjusting the amount of bombers per wave when they can and will tank missiles and absorb enormous amounts of cannon rounds?

Currently Stanley Baldwin is right

The bombers will always get through.

If these heavy bombers are tanking missiles I don’t want to know how prop tiers are doing

The amount of bombers per wave needs adjusting to account for how tanky they are

that really need to block bombers from spawning in domination map

I played one this morning, Norway at 3.7. Its tough. We lost. Not really sure how much the new bombers, or that I got a braindead team, contributed to it. But yeah, they are going to need to either reduce the formation sizes or bump up how many hp the base has or the mode will be dead.

You have virtually no chance to win a match anymore, so barely anyone queues now. The mode’s dead, no point bothering until they correct the buffs.

Gaijin will just look at the mode, come to the conclusion that no one is playing it anymore and never fix it.

I’m still getting games about as fast as usual. So either some folks haven’t gotten the word or there are those like me who will take an “L” as long as they get some booster. So the game is now just to try to keep the game going long enough…

Just got back from a week away…
First match I slammed 12x Aim-54’s into the same wave of Tu-4’s… not one single solitary kill, just 10x “hits” and 2 “crits”… it is officially impossible until they undo this absurdly overdone DM buff.

The real world chances of something like aTu-4 surviving a single Aim-54 are essentially zero…

If a B-29 can somehow land like this.
It can survive a single Aim-54.
HOWEVER
The chances of it surviving are low in many cases. Keyword: Many Cases Tu-4 is virtually no different from a B-29. Of course, some changes even then, that was typically to armaments.

Thats not how reality works.

No, that is how reality works. It’s called when. Not how.

When it happens, it’s hard to fathom. How it happens will never make sense cause it’s considered impossible.

Even then, Air Assault has been dead for a long time for being simply a neglected game mode with no real goal.

It’s simply: Let’s put a small batch of tanks and hope they somehow can magically defeat tons upon tons of tanks and planes attacking them from multiple directions.

Or in Planes: Tons upon tons of bombers.

Not realizing that the number needed to often destroy bomber forces was more than these game modes provide. Then factor in the AI somehow being stupidly accurate,e and you get a very unenjoyable game mode. That fails to understand the concept of waves getting harder and bigger over time and giving tools to players that would let them win.

The bomber buffs turned air assault from an easy booster grab into an actual stressful and sweaty game mode. But it seems that the current meta is hitting the bombers with AGMs (Kh-29s, Kh-38s and AGM-65s), because for some reason these bombers can just tank multiple AIM-54s and keep on flying like nothing happened.

Except, it really isn’t. The mechanics of being hit by a missile are not comparable to over running into a ditch. Even if the initial hit/blast doesn’t disintegrate the target the aerodynamic loads likely will shortly after.

There is no aircraft in existence capable of tanking a direct hit from a missile traveling at ~ Mach 2-3 and smashing it in the face with a ~60Kg HE warhead… the kinetic impact alone would likely be enough to kill a B-29/Tu-4.

You want me to start posting pictures of Aim-9 and Aim-4 test shots disintegrating B-17’s?

That’s a B-17 in the picture didn’t crash into a ditch; it’s flying.
An 88mm flak shell detonated point-blank. Reports were, and pictures confirmed, that it still managed to land, with the rest of the surviving crew alive.

And still landed.

The point I am trying to argue is that it most certainly can survive 1 or 2 Aim-54s; it is, however, low. Not impossible.
I am, however, not arguing that it can survive 4. Maybe read next time, since I implied this.

I’m VERY clearly referring to the previous picture which is indeed a B-29 in a ditch…

Now unless you want to post a picture of a B-17/29 landing after being hit with 1+ Aim-54’s you have not demonstrated anything, the charge in a German 88mm HE shell was less than fifth the mass of that in an Aim-54… the point (read: fact) I’m trying to argue is that the notion anything is surviving multiple Aim-54 hits is utterly delusional.

Your argument is a bit like saying you can take a 7.62mm/9mm hit to the shoulder and largely recover, so you could also take a 50 cal hit to the same spot… wherein reality you’re likely losing the arm and a sizeable chunk of your torso instantly.

The exception proves the rule.
How many other B-17s got shot in the face and didn’t come back?
