Is Aces of Thunder the death of WT Air Sim?

We have BVVD telling us they don’t want to increase matchmaking times, and two days later they announce the infantry mode (which will inevitably split the player base), and then this. Honestly, if they don’t want to increase matchmaking times, I don’t know what they’re trying to do.

They have an ecosystem where everything is already in place, why not invest fully in it? It’s truly incomprehensible.

Honestly . . . I don’t get it . … from what video reviews I have seen . . . its Exactly War Thunder

but with a price tag.

Except for the WW-I birds . . .

and giggles . . .there were no parachutes and no throttle management in those birds.

You should have just added the Great war as Tier 0 . . .like I said a million times

And what’s more, there’s a “flat screen” mode on their new game for those who don’t want to use a VR headset. I don’t understand the idea.

If we were dealing with true enthusiasts (and passion doesn’t preclude making money), this Ace of Thunder would have been a major update for the sim mod.

like, “Here we go, we’ve let you struggle for years, but here’s a complete overhaul of the mod.”

Just read the game description, it’s exactly the simulation mode in fact.

I’m not going to die from it, I’ll keep playing in simulation mode (I don’t play in VR, I don’t like it), but unfortunately, this situation is repeated everywhere in the video game world.

How many developers have gold right in front of them but prefer to dig in the sh*t next to it, hoping maybe to find a vein of diamonds?

What a waste.

That assumes . . .people who actually fly SIM are just going to pay for what they already have for free and over 1000 air craft . .

Its the same maps, even the test flights . . . everything same same . . .

I would think selling premiums in an improved mode would have been a better business plan

Well I guess there are no bombers . . . .

😂

Yet . . .

Yes, but there’s the famous, irrefutable logic:

If we don’t improve the game > nobody plays it > if nobody plays it, why improve it?

I don’t think so. Could be the contrary actually.

AoT I believe only offers a rather limited number of aicraft, but those modelled better. So I’d say most Sim EC players will stay with WT for the variety it offers.

Could actually be the other way round and AoT acting as advertisment for WT…

ngl

Aces seems like a cashgrab that should have been in WTs base.

This was meant to be a ww1 sim at first. now its just WT sim you pay for, without your premium vehicles and no progression on your WT account

If I can get my PSVR2 to work I’ll probably enjoy this right until I get bored of the on rails trim-less flight models. I might wait for it to be reduced first at which point hopefully they’ll add the missing simulator aspects to the game.

I know I’m going to sound like a traitor now but I do prefer Gaijin’s standalone games to WT. BoS and BoP are not just more immersive but they actually work properly for the most part. As I’ve said before I’m hoping they port the working gauges to WT.

I understand why they’ve done it… it’s money, and fair enough. They definitely won’t be supporting AoT like WT so it’s a neat little project that can earn them a few £££’s whilst also potentially attracting more people to WT. Give it a few months and I wouldn’t be surprised if us console peasants are then allowed to use VR on War Thunder.

My only hope is that the development of this game is why zero of the blatant bugs have been sorted here, at which point now the game is done you can spend more time on War Thunder.

looks like the game is doing fantastic right now

Ok . . .giggles

so why did you do this . . .??

The people who actually loved you were already here

The people you pissed off and sent away,

were not going to give you their money

Who did that leave?

People who do not know what flight Sims are and can not setup their joysticks?

Sim was a jewel in your crown, the pinnical that every one was aspiring to

Which clown actually tried to take the jewel out of the crown

and sell it like a thief?

With out the crown . . . its only a stone

Its the crown that made it a Jewel

Never bloody listened to good advice

That was what your problem always was

From what I’ve seen/heard of Aces of Thunder, its flight models and flight controls are not interesting.

Autotrim is described as more than just well, auto-trim. It’s described as a form of physics simplification (which is observable in WT as well) - removing engine effects on control & flight.

Matches are operations/ARB/Arcade style too to boot.

I think the only people going for AoT are those who don’t know air sim exists and think ARB is warthunder’s sim mode as indicated by some of the reviews.

Please don’t listen to the negative reviews. I am a long time War Thunder VR player using HOTAS and have been looking forward to a game that levels the playing field, locking everyone to cockpit view and no awful homing missiles so it takes actual skill rather than just clicking the mouse on something for it to die.

Like, this guy’s complaints about WT are all solved by playing Air sim mode and yet… ???

So they decided to abandon the WT sim to re-sell it again in AoT. What a beautiful market strategy, well done Gaijin

@Schindibee

I was waiting for a couple of days

before I took this conversation further

I think probably by next week or so

we will find out if you can or you can’t

why you can or why you can’t

why you needed to or didn’t need to

You should have left my thread . . . I wanted to have this discussion in a quiet corner

with out any drama

but do as you will

Why should I have left the discussion? My opinion as dedicated Sim EC user is as valid as anybody else’s, no?

My point being in this whole discussion about “AoC bad for WT Sim EC” is that I don’t see how a dedicated VR game, covering only a very small part of WT (20+ planes, 15 maps, all WW2), could in any way replace the currently standing Sim EC in WT, covering all eras from pre WW2 to the most modern aircraft.

It’s completely different scopes.

I am saying you should not have closed my thread and merged it here, I wanted to make a coherent post there with out everybody jumping on it.

Ah, I see the misunderstanding: That wasn’t me, I’m not a forum mod and not even authorized to do such things.

I think i was just sending my response when Stona merged the two threads, so that’s how I ended up still appearing in the now closed thread of yours.

We both know where it is going. They must do progress, and Gaijin is going to bring more planes from WT to AoT, reaching to jets and missiles. It means no work is to be done in WT sim.

Gaijin doesn’t seem to realize how seamless it is to switch to RB for a change of pace after grinding SB for a bit.
It works both ways too — lets new players casually dip their toes into SB (the lighter sim), which is great for growing the playerbase.
Of course, the downside is all those annoying zombers who just spawn a bomber and J-out…
