For the past couple days, i’ve seen an absolutely despicable amount of people bombing in the MiG-21. Not even just premium vehicles. For players in actual strike jets its kinda annoying seeing an exclusively air-to-air fighter bombing bases by getting there first, and even more importantly, wasting many missile hardpoints which could be a significant benefit to the team. Now in the F-4S i don’t mind people bombing, as it is a multi-role fighter which doesn’t sacrifice missiles in exchange for bombs. Is it the addition of new top tier jets that causes this, or some other change?
We had an air event for past 2 weeks for the romanian jet.
It kind of also messed up air sim too with zombers.
oh the romanian shitboat, forgot about it
we can add the f104 and rhe mig23 ml especially what’s the point of having attacker aircraft that can only bomb like the tornado just to see 2 f104/mig23ml/mig21 faster than you making bases funny cause we generally loose these match
It’s not just a problem for the MiG-21.
If you have the lowest br in the game, then it’s a pretty sure SL gain in the game for any such aircraft… The ideal situation is an aircraft with two short/medium range missiles and the rest a bomb… You have a fighter bomber as a picture and sometimes it happens that you when you return to the base, you will also shoot down some player from the red team…
Then it’s harder for strike aircraft players, but all you have to do is learn how to play with it…
The MiG-21/23 were never designed for bombing, and taking bombs reduces the amount of AAMS you can carry, heck they don’t even have a CCIP for their bombs. Why have strike aircraft when some annoying ass air-to-air fighter just takes the bases anyway…
If it’s an “exclusively air to air fighter”, it wouldn’t be able to equip bombs, no?
It doesn’t even have CCIP…
It was never designed for it, only as an afterthought
CCIP or not, it can be equipped with bombs, so people will take them.
Who are you to determine how others choose to play? What I find truly funny is, you’re concerned with people bombing and being selfish by trying to maximize their own earnings, while you selfishly want the exact same thing. The bases aren’t exclusively for you or attack aircraft, and anyone who chooses to bomb is well within their rights to do so.
Personally, I think anyone who goes into a match to bomb bases is being useless overall, but I don’t try to dictate how one chooses to play their own game, they are allowed to play how they like.
Issue is ARB matchmaker.
It has a limit on the amount of bombers/match.
It does not have one for the amount of fighter-bombers.
This kind of makes prop tier ARB as america a massive exercise in frustration as well as you end up climbing with a few people to start at a massive disdavantage of something like 6v16 or along those lines because your whole team decided to LARP as lawmowers and put a few tons of bombs on their corsairs and thunderbolts and are flying at a few hundred meters off the deck.
Bombers could use a better ARB design space, but they’re at least accounted for in the max bomber/match limit. It’s a total gamble if you end up with a full 12 corsair team that climbs and fights the enemy with appropriate tactics or you end up with 4-6 corsairs fighting, rest lawmmowing.
Now, this argument applies less to the Missile Thunder™ eras because I don’t think I’ve seen a bomber in 10 games in my F8U-2 but have seen a lot of strike planes that don’t have a matchmaker balance consideration. In fact, I’ve had games of almost pure strike craft. It doesn’t help that some strike planes can make excellent fighters (pre missile thunder, but airspawn F84B/G)
And that’s the problem…
-you have a lot of planes in the trees
-you have a relatively high battle rating range in a battle that can fit a lot of planes, for different types of combat operations
-you have maps that are tactical (50x50 km) in terms of their combat zone size, not strategic (e.g. a combat zone of 180x180 km)
-and you have players who can’t do a properly executed, air combat, but only grind, or they can’t do that well with planes…
… and many other things could be listed…
So you have to play the game as it is set up…
If you only wanted a fighter combat type game, only with planes that actually faced each other, then it would be some games, or special events, like this…
War Thunder 1940 Battle Of Britain
War Thunder 1941 Operation Barbarossa
War Thunder 1951 Korean War etc. etc.
And those would be specialized games for a specific period… this way you have a universal game for a wide range of players, which is approximately balanced by aircraft that historically actually met in the sky… and the same applies to tanks and ships…
Mhm, then what is the use of Strike Aircraft? Their whole purpose is striking ground targets. VERY capable fighters like the MiG-21 should not be wasting great amounts of potential by taking a full bomb load, bombing bases, and dying instantly. Makes strike aircraft nonsensical in ARB (not all, some). There needs to be either more bases, or airfield bombing like before.
You have to go back in history…
- During World War II, there were many specialized types of aircraft…
- After World War II, it was becoming clear that it was economically and logistically unsustainable, but with the assumption that the next war would be nuclear, in simple terms - aircraft carrying nuclear weapons and interceptor fighters that would shoot them down before they got close to their targets were enough…
- fortunately, no one did (let’s hope that people don’t go crazy even now…), but now the question was what to do about it: will there always be wars and will we return to the old iron bombs? …
- so they started adding and inventing more armament/equipment to the aircraft, but it was still kind of provisional… (low payload, short range, etc…)
- so if you take the entire MiG series, up to the legendary type 21, we have other versions bis, S, SM, F, PF, PFM, etc…
The MiG-21, I would say, was a real hit in the middle of the target for the Soviet Union… !
- relatively affordable aircraft for many countries and nations
- possibility of relatively quick conversions to various combat versions
- a huge number of machines were produced, I have the impression that it was compared to the legendary Il-2 Sturmovik in terms of the number of units produced
- basically a successful first entry into the world of multi-role combat aircraft for the Soviets …
Specialized combat aircraft for various types of combat operations can only be afforded by superpowers today - the USA, China, maybe Russia …
Other countries are already joining together in large consortia and making machines,
one modular airframe and various types of armament, avionics, etc.
E.g. Tornado, Typhoon, Su-27/MiG-29 and other subvariants based on them…
Finally, the F-35 is also supposed to be a multi-role aircraft for everything…
GRB.
And this causes so many discussions, the connection to GRB.
Beyond 10.0 one rule exists. The team with the most fighters early game wins the battle.
AirRB beyond 10.0 has no need for SU25, A10 etc. The higher the tier hte more usless they become. They are fun planes in AirRB, not more. Even hightier Multirolefighters with bombload weaken the team. Earlygame presence is the key.
That’s the reason why I always talk about modernizing the reward system, so the key goals earn the most.
Just remove bombs for fighters IMHO.
Issue:
There’s 1 guy surviving on the enemy team and it’s still low-tier for actually powerful enough radars to find this guy (especially if they’re hiding low to the ground near edges of the map).
You need to deal with tickets and put them in your team’s favour. Your aircraft has cannons, but it’s low ammo/not good at taking down tanks in a strafing run due to various reasons.
Putting rockets and bombs on your plane allows you to shift tickets in your favour after clearing the airspace of threats.
A fairly rare occurance, I admit, and perhaps you got dedicated strike planes still alive to do it but if not -
Well, that’s why fighter-bombers/multirole are a thing, no?
What I could see and accept is first take-off with non-dedicated strike planes is Air-to-air armament only, subsequent take offs allow for mounting rockets and bombs.
But bombs and rockets are historically significant ordinance, and for some nations and BRs fighters are the only option for CAS.
A better solution I would think is to substantially reduce SL/RP rewards for bombing in a fighter. So you can still do so if you want but will be rewarded much more for actually using your vehicle in a way that helps the team
But then you’ll screw over fighters that are good at bombing, such as Phantoms, Mig-27s, and F-104s.
Gaijin should just redo how bases are currently done, or increase the amount of available bases on a map.
That’s kinda the point, to dissuade zombers from misusing their aircraft, which also benefits attackers and strike as aircraft who don’t have to compete with them for bases anymore
Yes, but there are some fighters that are just as good as dedicated strike aircraft, if not better in some situations. It isn’t fair to nerf all fighters.
Gaijin just needs to give players more of a reason to not base bomb, or to remove the base respawn timer/increase the number of bases.
RB EC would be ideal, but gaijin seems to hate that idea.
