I just unlocked this thing so yes I’m stock, but it would make no difference. This thing has absolutely no redeeming factors and is beaten by the MiG-15 in every department but sits 0.7 BR higher. Good high-speed roll rate but that’s by and large useless especially with the dreadful energy retention making any form of maneuvering pointless, and the cannons are better for longer range firing, but that’s it. It’s slow, horrendous energy retention, low flap deployment speed, bad acceleration, poor maneuverability… I don’t see a world where this is 0.4 above the MiG-15bis, 0.7 above MiG-15 and same br as MiG-17.
Why do the MiG-15 and F-86A sit at 8.0 while shit like this, the Swifts(lmao) and Vampire/Venom sit at higher BRs?
I played it not too long ago myself and can’t wrap my head around it. Gaijin must see it as a MiG-17 equivalent, and even the MiG-17 can struggle at 8.7. It’s subsonic with 2 30mm DEFAs and isn’t the fastest or most maneuverable for the BR range. Putting them at 8.3 wouldn’t be the end of the world.
I only played it like three matches after unlocking it but just ditched it because it lost speed comically fast. I don’t even get how it’s realistic that it’s that bad, because in Xray it has a decently more powerful hispano engine than the mig15/f86 at that rating if I remember right. Maybe because the plane itself has much more weight, but I’m not an aircraft engineer.
It’s a shame it sucks because the iva can carry the nord which is a fun weapon. But even that isn’t too consistent…
Edit: Just checked and the iva has 50% more mass than the mig17. I’m not sure how, maybe its construction makes it more durable in return but probably isn’t modelled in game. Should definitely be lower rating. The one advantage I do remember of it to be fair is not compressing much at high speed.
