Why does this keep happening in the F-4J? Its mostly when trying to lock mig23s for some reason. (could be confirmation bias, I’m not sure)
The replay video doesn’t 100% align with what really happened, but essentially whenever I try to lock, it drops immediately or “ghosts”. I’m not locking the mig23 nor his missile, just a random point in space where the mig23 was. He was going straight at me too, so the HDN PD radar shouldn’t have any trouble.
Sometimes I get a lock that floats around the plane instead of the plane itself and then it drops.
I’m spading the F-4J for the first time and it is the first time I got this issue. I don’t know if it’s just a F-4J/S issue or the update broke some other radars too, haven’t yet played anything else since.

Maybe he dropped chaff as soon as he saw a lock on his RWR, I believe that some of the Mig23s get large calibur countermeasures
No, and that is also irrelevant when you have a PD radar and your target is going straight at you since it will filter out chaff. At least it should be the case

Well in that case, I believe I’ve seen another thread on this exact topic about Mig23s becoming “unlockable” when they are going faster than mach 1 or something along those lines, I personally have never experienced it though
That’s interesting, do you know the thread link?
No sorry, but it wouldve only been maybe a week ago I last saw it
I’m just kind of in acceptance that the F-4 is just never locking anything, but good to know its a bug and my $70 premium isn’t slowly becoming worthless
Pdv hdn is kinda bad for usability but thats the cost of having PD at that BR
Come on that’s not true, the radar is unreliable and the rwr is a tad useless but it still works great on average. Better experience than playing a f-16a in a downtier
It’s slowly getting to a point where it’s outclassed by everything around it while it still won’t go down because the possibility for 6 AIM-7s scares the hell out of people.
That being said, I’ve been considtently getting a base with the outer napalm then picking off 2-3 unaware hornets or migs, got me 10x as much RP as the F-16A in significantly less time
That also being said, it’s still a plane that consistently sees Flankers and Fox-3s
It has no business going down when it’s already one of the strongest 12.0s, It’s one of the few jets that benefit from the current BR compression quite often. Well lets not derail the topic
It shouldn’t go down at all rn, it should stay where it is, probably move a few BRs up, while multiple other aircraft migrate up for 15.0
After further testing, I can confirm that this is a bug related to the mig23. It’s not possible to lock the mig23 if it goes fast enough, no matter what.
Did you test using multiple different radars and radar track modes?
I’ve only noticed with the F-4J, others might be fine idk
Might be worth testing, ill have looksie
usually only happens with mig23 at altitude or diving because those near the ground wont get fast enough
tested it with tornado adv, indeed struggle to maintain lock on mig23 going above a certain speed (about 1.5 mach from my tests) affects PD and standard non PD radar lock, and TWS consistently lags behind where the plane actually is
