Stop increasing BR’s of SPAA simply because they’re hard for CAS to kill. Take the Skink for example, the guns are terrible. The Bosvark is a far better SPAA at actually killing planes.

Adjust CAS BR’s in ground battles. Similar to how vehicles have different BR’s between AB, RB, and SB.
I got 4 air-to-ground kills in one game, just this week. (One sortie!) I’m 61 years old with arthritis in both hands, and was able to do that. (P47, 2 1K and 1 500 lbs bomb, if I’m not mistaken) I’ve seen a Pe8 pilot take out six enemy and a couple of friendly tanks with one bomb.
I get the same but Im not pretending it happens every game ,I have done six kills in a pe 8 twice but I have done six kills in a tanks far more times that I care to remember.
As for hating CAS, the issue is that tankers skills are less valued in the only mode they can play in than piloting skills. The right CAS can pretty much mop up an enemy team, and SPAA/SAMs for your country might be useless against it. The only real tool for stomping CAS is via aircraft or those rare SPAAs and SAMs that are really useful. (Otto and Pantsir being examples)
I do notice, down in the 4 to 6.7 BRs, that the matches are now MUCH shorter. SPAA does now seem more effective. (1 or 2 hits and even my P47 is dead!) I haven’t flown a plane back to base that was damaged by SPAA, yet this week. (Where that was not unusual, this time last year)
The only way is to accept it as it is or remove it. No other suitable alternative has come in 12 years has it?
The suitable alternative is make the separate mode that has been asked for for years. Gaijin won’t do that though because bomber and strike aircraft sales would plummet.
TO has bigger obstacles than that…think about logistics (especially population), needs (map changes, separate balancing, etc.) and vision (Gaijin: “how does this fit with our CA game?”).
Absent the ‘trigger queue’ idea (which is a novel way to address the matter), there is tremendous doubt that TO could sustain a population that could give its matches a reliable, uniform filling. At certain ranges, the place might be lush with players while others are a (relative) desert…sort of like the population distribution of RB GFs as-is.
Because TO has never really had a sober, in-depth discussion for any real length of time and no formal proposal to speak of, almost all hurdles in front of the idea have remained. That’s left the idea to languish.
Of course it is.
Everyone would benefit from it, especially air players as no more nerfs would come in name of balancing things.
Some are just too short-sighted and scared of losing easy gameplay to see it.
The polls on forum show what players think.
That is an amusingly naive take…here’s the bigger picture:
Shortsightedness is demanding a new mode while also refusing to delve into its needs and how to meet them. A new mode would have its own balancing needs, logistics and population considerations to address…all of these things could be something “everyone would benefit from” but you have to work to that point to get there.
The fact that TO advocates haven’t even drafted a formal proposal (as is normal and standard for development suggestions) in 7 or 8 years makes Gaijin’s reaction reasonable: ‘if TO advocates don’t care enough about this idea to write about it, why should we bother trying it?’
AFAIK, the last official mention of TO by Gaijin was when they proposed a ‘compromise’ of an SB-like perma-event in late 2019…which was spurned. Since then, I don’t believe the idea has ever resurfaced officially. The years of silence are a fair commentary to Gaijin’s waning interest in entertaining the idea.
Also: the perception that RB GFs or RB TO would be easier than one another is incorrect–they’d be different with different metas.
However, good players (such as many tankers who fly) would likely dominate in both modes, which would inevitably generate howling from people who seek ‘easy gameplay’…so TO as a “haven” or “sanctuary” mode would not work.
I have been one of those asking for it .I don’t think it has anything to do with sales of any kind to be honest.
There are zero obstacles that is the point ,they just do it and have the best tank game available and knock WoT out of the ball park that is it unless there are legal implications and I cant see why there would be.
Yes it has plenty of times.
They have and its been rejected ,that was basically a forum manager saying there are no plans for TO
Where we are at currently is the never ending requests on here by War Thunder players for a TO game and the calls by supposed CA supporters asking for ways to nerf CAS despite supposedly being fans of CAS.
A simple month long test of a no CAS TO GRB is an easy solution .Its called being Fan/Customer led and after 12 years I think Gaijin should trust its fan base a little on this one to at least trial it and either find a major surprise success or be able to say ,“well we told you so” in the event of a failure.
I would love to see a mode added for just tanks to fight in. I don’t see a problem with this, but a LOT of players don’t want to see this happen.
In the meantime, I’m flying as much as I can, and playing in the BRs that don’t have helicopters. Between those two things, I’m slowly stacking up SLs, despite not paying for premium time.
Oh yes, let us not add a new gamemode to the game that has the same gamemodes for over 10 years becaues “reasons”!
I could understand them being angry at the removal of planes from GRB for sure and I would not advocate that. As you we are for adding a new version of GRB in the belief that it would be sufficiently popular to justify it’s existence and that it would further Gaijins cause not detract from it. Combined arms would still be popular.
The reaction to the “WarThunder is dying” posts tells us we have millions of players online so no issue with queue times
What tells you about cue times is waiting for a match to start.
I do know a bunch of tankers that have left this game. I keep playing, where I can find fun, but I think I’m kinda at my limit on how good I might get at flying in this game. (And the changes have the mode currently somewhat silly. It looks like it’s easier to knock planes down with SPAA than it is to shoot them down with a fighter that has better weapons than the SPAA, assuming you have the skill to get hits.)
I remember you on the old forum about 3 or 4 years ago calling for some sort of TO mode.I 'll be honest on the X box flying is terrible. I have been playing flight based games for years with a joystick etc and nothing is as terrible as trying t fly in WT on console. I have tried to set the controls up but find nothing that feels like a real plane and I have flown real planes enough to know what I am looking for.
I joined WT to fly planes but found the game plain boring and repetitive so gave tanks a go not holding much hope after a few months of WoT. I hated arcade but liked GRB.
I have been a non flyer in this game and a quite passionate user of CAS. Its kind of irrelevant now because I belive a TO GRB is the ultimate version of War Thunder irrelevant of whether I fly, like planes or not.
On the odd game where have no CAS involvement its the best games of GRB I have ever had in terms of feeling immersed and in the zone.Like the difference between draughts and chess.
I find sometimes I am having a great duel with somebody else and a kid in a plane just rushes by for no other reason than to shatter enjoyment like kicking the games board over.
I suspect that issue here is as much adults sharing a game with children or different cultures treading on each others toes culturally. Like taking UFC over Tekken or vice versa
As much of a TO advocate as I have been, I’ve never said I would stop playing the combined arms version if TO were available.
Same here.I remember games like Quake where suddenly you could jump into a flying vehicle,it was magical and amazing and so is the ability to fly in GRB. I just think GRB has naturally evolved into something else and we should explore that.
I also see so many comments elsewhere on how much better WT is than other tank games if not for the CAS spoiling it.I think TO GRB would also be good for newbies who don’t have to keep one eye on the sky.
If you want something dramatically different from what WT offers, it exists in multiple other games.
Adding an additional game mode and dedicating already overtaxed devs to balancing and maintaining an additional game mode that will require additional rebalancing is not going to help anyone.
A mode just for tanks is not dramatically different.
We have air modes with just air units controlled by players. Having a mode just for tanks will be the same as already existing GF RBs mode but just without air units
No balancing needed as ground units are not balance around facing aircrafts (not talking about SPAA). Otherwise open-tops would have 1 B.R.
It is when the entire game from BR 1.0 to 12 is combined arms and every tech tree has a SPAA line specifically to defend against air attacks. And it would entirely obsolete almost every vehicle in entire SPAA lines.
Instead of TO, you should be calling to fix SPAA.
Instead of fighting with tank reticles they should have lead computing reflector and gyro gunsights (have been around since WW2) and AA reticles.
Instead of taking airplanes away, we should make the skies dangerous.
