If you could, how would you re-balance CAS in Ground Battles?

It was ground-only for a short time in the beta test phase.

I was there, during the tests. Combined arms has been a thing far longer than ground only was.

What would removing instructor do that forcing mouse joystick wouldn’t?

That’s not the 20mm ripping their entire damn tail/wing off. The main issue I have is wings and tails being completely ripped off by a single sneeze.

First off, the ai ground units still play a major part in air battles so yes it’s combined arms (and no1’s askig for it to be air only anyways)
Second off, air battles don’t mean much in regards to ground battles anyways.

Without a frequency this is an irrelevant statement.
For a comparision you need to know how common this is in game compared to real life. That it can happen is to be expected, the important thing is the chance of it happening. Without that a statement is meaningless

Sure,but ground changes affect air battles. And since air battles have more players, we should always look at what is best for air battles. If we go by demographic

No, frequency is irrelevant. Damage isn’t about random chance, it’s about where the bullet/shell hits.

How? even if ground battles were joystick only, air battles could/would still be mouse aim as always.

Comparing pistol bullets with SLIGHT variation, especially when pistol bullets are meant to be cheap and not neccesarily precise to massive frickin objects where slight variation matters signifigantly less is an extremely weak argument. Where the shot hits matters FAR more than random chance.

No, we have been talking about instructor for a while now.

There is a reason penetration values are always given as the median value… it isn’t as determnistic as you think, the world isn’t

Also just because a 1/1000 shot from a 20mm can take off a B-17’s tail or wing doesn’t mean it should take out a B-17’s tail or wing 100% of the time in Warthunder, or really at all.

You realize that is untrue? When Einstein said “God doesn’t play dice with the universe.” he was wrong.

Besides that, there are always factors you cannot predetermine, making any outcome partialy random from ones perspective…

But yes there is random chance in the universe. This is known for quite some time now.

I never said that. I said, that statements about 20mm ripping up wings are useless without saying anything about their frequency… i stated that quite literally.

If it is 1/1000 in real life the same chance must be observable in game. But simply stating that it can and cannot happen is stupid.

I mean you can look at my account badges, it tells you right there I was a beta tester. Your account only has “Viking fury” badge, which is Update 1.97, from 2020. Ground closed beta was back in 2014.

Ground only wasn’t a thing when tanks went open beta for free. In fact, ground only was dead long before that.

Fun is subjective. Don’t try to argue “your fun” is better then someone else’s “fun”. You’ll both get red in the face.

Not getting continuously harrased by heli’s and high altitude bombers, that a tank generally has no defense against, is a lot better than the opposite… some rounds i have been attacked at spawn by upto 4 helis at the very begining of the round. CAS-less ground was more tank … what we have now is more “air with with ground units to abuse”.

There was no Airplane free mode in this game, for which exists ONLY because of the aircraft (note how many aircraft games exist for last 30 years and how many “ground only” games have existed in terms of military games outside of strategy.

It got worse as more players unwilling to do the job of anti-air (ground and air) flooded the mode.

And yes the ibtroduction of more modern wrapon systems creates a mess, but at no point in WT Ground has top tiers not been a mess; it is the nature of “top tier”.

However, this is a topic about rational changes to improve the balances within the mode (which involves 32 minds, not just wannabe gunho hero players).

Be the change you want it to be.

1.Bigger maps much bigger, more space for players to spread out and make CAS look for them
2. More woods, overhead cover.
3. Make cammo actualy work and dont give cas black dots on the ground to look for. No matter the graphic settings. Hidding in shadows, under threess, cammo should actualy work as it is intended. Wrong camo for the wrong map should make tanks stand out as are cosmetics that are sparking and and lights.

Balance cant be accived by just do that one thing and all will be fine.

  • Increase SP costs even more, especially depending on the size of the bombs or rocket loadouts.
    (Bigger = more SP required)

  • All planes in Ground RB have to take off the airfield instead of getting an air spawn (some aircraft that can’t take off with certain load-outs can be an exception)

  • More maps or redesigns with taller, differing terrain or more added buildings, trees or objects to make CAS aircraft think more carefully about their angle of attack or approach without crashing or colliding with the environment Ex: the mountainside of Ash River, balloons of Normandy, tall cranes of Cargo Port etc…

  • Have semi-destructible buildings or more places you can hide your ground vehicle inside of or use as physical cover Ex: (alley archways in Poland, tunnels in Pradesh and Frozen Pass, underground stairs in the Middle East or even the tractor plants of the Stalingrad map

  • Introduce SL-earning battle tasks or a new reward system for staying near the vicinity of different classes of tanks while playing an SPAA to incentivize more players to use them while enemy aircraft are already up in the battlefield

  • Removal of the kill cam in GRB (this one is a mixed-bag opinion but it would lessen the amount of revenge killing for sure which I know is like 90% of what most hate and find generally annoying

There are probably more people have come up with but I feel these could work well if implemented correctly.

love the fact that he is able to use his guns to shoot down CAS lol and knows how to aim with it.

I don’t think CAS is that bad, but some BRs have it worse than others - especially low mid-tier. Increase the spawn cost and have them start further out, that’s it. CAS is only a problem when half the enemy team spawns planes and there’s not enough SPAA to counter it.

Yeah, kill cam sucks - just encourages revenge CAS. I know because I do it.
