Use IRTS to detect them by their heat signature, if your plane has it, otherwise a pod can provide that functionality.
Not many have IRST below top tier and still doesn’t mean I can engage with anything but guns.
Tpod trick yes, but again, massive chore to find them manually using that trick.l and means having a tpod in the first place
But it’s useless if I’m in something like a Tornado F3 and they should be detectable on radar
IMO the answer is to actually incentivize dealing with planes. Rewards for shooting down a plane are pitiful compared to their game impact. Most players in an SPAA would be better off hunting down a tank to kill rather than shoot down a plane as you need to take down like 4-5 planes to match the reward for killing a tank. This despite the fact for many SPAA killing a plane is more difficult than a tank.
Almost nobody flies air superiority loadouts for the same reason. There’s no reason to when the rewards you get are basically nothing, and at the same time you sacrifice game impact for most planes. In all reality CAS itself can be kept exactly as it is and be fine if there’s actually incentive to deal with CAS proactively instead of reactively, or at all.
CAP pays quite well though?
At least in Ground SB
Taking out a plane or heli gives more score than taking out a player ground vehicle, by a factor of two at least
That AA gets minuscule rewards however, that is true
Seems to be different in ground RB then. I usually get about nothing for nailing planes/helis in my planes in GroundRB
It pays quite well (or at least I think it pays the same as a G2G kill) if there is something to shoot down and ideally more than 1 thing.
If no one spawns CAS, or SPAA shoot it down before you can, etc etc.
You get barely anything or maybe even nothing and you are just sat AFK.
Not sure what solution you could do for that which wouldnt just be exploited, but its only been profitable for me to do CAP a handful of times. Most of the time its valuable to the game, but not really valuable to me personally. (though can be fun, so there is that at least)
Maybe AI aircraft to shoot down, good buff for SPAA too
and that is without even considering the 7-10x the SP cost currently compared to SPAA
IMO this is why I honestly think Ground and Air RB should have a combined mode. Have some way for non-CAS players to contribute like bombing bases/artillery sites
When combined arms was annoucned, this is what I thought it would actually be
Same, really disappointed this is what we got instead
The 10_2 bracket is quite great for defending the team from A-10, Su-17/22, maverick phantoms and mig-27s
Half the time I feel half the teams is air
Otherwise I do not play ground at all…
Need to try top bracket again, kh-38mt slingers were good targets until ground SAMs made it much more dangerous to be up
GSB is a bit different though, because you can first spawn and if you want only spawn aircraft.
I quite often enjoy that bracket to just play CAP, CAS or SPAA as well because of that fact.
Just a shame GSB brackets change and most of them are rubbish, would make this event much easier if I could sit in my Jaaaaaag and do it.
In a normal GRB match though, its not the same
Yeah trying to run air superiority top tier is difficult. CAS/Heli will usually hover close to the ground where they can dodge the missiles much easier, meanwhile to do your job effectively you need high alt/energy where the missiles do their work best
Sorry just had this thought too, but this would also give higher tier SPAA more to do. Right now there’s interest in it since it’s a new system a lot of people are still just gaining access to, but when there’s no planes you’re just kinda sitting there staring at a radar screen.
Actually having more activity in the air would help further incentivize players spawning SPAA since there’s actual game impact to be had as well. Cluster the bombing points nearby where the action is happening on the ground and now suddenly you’ve got a sky filled with juicy targets. The people flying air get a more engaging challenge, bombers have a purpose again, CAS actually has to deal with the threat of fighters lightening the burden on the ground, everyone wins.
Yeah it would, one of the biggest issues with SPAA and CAP is that its reactive. its why I like SPAA that can scout too, should just be the standard Imo
I would second scouting being standard for SPAA vehicles however with standouts like the XM246, Gepard, Leopard ITPSV and others, I /really/ don’t think they need more effectiveness on the ground. Though the issue with these vehicles a lot of the times comes down to inaccurate modeling for API belts causing them to behave like APHE. Combined with a high fire rate one round is bound to get through and nuke your crew
You’re right sure… but that implies that everyone has CAP which is simply not true, i have no interest in planes… they could pay me millions and i still wouldn’t play them
The solution for that exists though and is in NRB and is the same as the free SPAA vehicle you get. They could just give everyone an appropriate CAP option as well as a spawnable vehicle.
The difference is that in naval, many units have AI AA that deal with air while You can still stay in what You want to play.
With what I’m thinking you wouldn’t be required to bring in either. You could have a mixed lineup of planes and ground vehicles, just planes, w/e. The general idea is to bring in people who want to play planes to play alongside the ground battle in a way that compliments both modes
In order to do that, You just need to bring a mode just for tankers/people who just want to play tanks and what would remain in current gamemode would be just players who want combined aspect of the game balancing things out.
