If you could, how would you re-balance CAS in Ground Battles?

Took the ZSU-23-4V for a spin once again after a long while. The new “Radar Control Screen”, makes aiming a lot more easier than manually aiming it. Before it was harder due to velocity of these rounds. Now I just let the Computer do all the work, I just have to wait to shoot at the correct time.
Side note: Not a lot of players spawn or spam CAS around 8.0 from what I’m seeing. Its sometimes none to 4 air, very rare 5+.

This is a nice feature that helps re-balance CAS. Loving it!

Sorry didnt mean to reply on your post. Thought i clicked on the normal reply.

If like me you think CAS is ruining ground battles, try playing NAVAL battles instead. Great fun to see a full broadside hit another ship and not a Compatible And Sad mediocre REVENGE BOMBER to be seen; so much Antiaircraft flying about they probably only have a 5% chance of getting anywhere near your ship before getting shot down. A plus is that Battle Points count towards improving tank crew skill levels also…a win win! If we all did this, they can be left to bomb the crap out of each other. Almost forgot, NO CHEATING/UNSPORTSMANLIKE possible in this game unlike ground battles, something that I have pointed out to Gaijin only to have the post deleted immediately before anybody could read it.

Easiest?
Sry no way did u just said this when kh38 exist

Even Su-34 as op as it is requires SP. SLM and Pantsir are basically free

Unfortunately though, only one other nation gets something even remotely “on-par” with KH-38MT, and thats france with AASM.

So just because KH-38MT is OP, doesnt mean all CAS is OP. I quite genuinely have no idea what the hell I would be suppose to do against an IRIS-T SLM in even the Typhoon, let alone litereally any other CAS at or below 12.7 in my only ground tree. Britain.

(I actually had a good chance to 1v1 @Beeschurger. He was in IRIS-T SLM and I was in the Typhoon and the best I could come up with was fly super low and gunstrafe. Was actually thinking that Torando Gr4 with high drag bombs might be the only counter I have at the moment and that requires someone having the IRIS-T SLM radar or laucnhers scouted.)

It is a tad bit unfair that an SPAA costs only 70, especially one as incredibly strong as the Pantsir or IRIS-T SLM but I cant even spawn in a Typhoon with Pure A2A fit, heck I cant even spawn in a Tornado F3 Late or Sea Harrier FA2 with pure A2A fit for anyless than 700 if I want ARH missiles.

They really really need to rebalance SP costs and wieght them far more towards both the quality of each weapon and the quantity of each weapon and also reduce the base cost of the aircraft themselves. Also A2A missile should have no SP cost at all. Especially whilst only 2 nations have god-tier SPAA and only 8 nations have top tier SPAAs at all

Would also help a lot if they decompressed things a bit. I have an 11.7 line-up for ground which I sometimes play because I can actually get the occasional downtier, but if its an uptier, even to 12.0.Then neither of my 11.7 CAS options stand much of a chance against any 12.0 SPAA at the moment.

Just to add, in all the scenarios where you gun strafed me, brimstone would also work. Or unguided rockets, really.

And we need to try that GPS bomb toss! :D

Yeah, providing you can manage the tpod and fly low enough without crashing at the same time. Its a tricky skill, also might not be viable if the target is behind a wall of something. , unguided rockets would have worked rather well, but best Ive got for that is the Harrier and I really really really odnt want to put a supernova harrier up against a Gen 5 IR slinger :D

And yes, we do. I was also think that with the GNSS nerfs and the fact that im somewhat limited to only 500lb GNSS bombs. Whether CCRP bomb tossing 1000lb bombs from the Tornado or Typhoon might be even more effective. Heck Typhoon has 2000lb unguided bombs come to think of it.

flashbang

I was thinking more of spotting the SLM with TPOD first, selecting bombing point, switching to low level treetop approach and then yeeting it with help of CCRP, akin to this

ovrxgmyyefe01

Yeah, as was I. Thats a CCRP bomb toss. But would be more effective with a 1000-2000lb unguided bomb than a 500lb GNSS guided bomb. especially as you can use ripple modes with them and you cant with GNSS.

Fair enough

Only reason i wqs thinking of GPS bomb is due to correction of any deviation from target during release.

Or i suppose you can just as well yeet the BFB and let AoE take care of it.

Id really need to test it.

Third-person CCRP is super easy and fairly accurate when done right and with the GNSS 10m deviation thing, You may achieve better accuracy with CCRP and unguided these days.

So against a lightly armoured target like an IRIS-T SLM. You may find better success with larger unguided bombs.

Though you could then lase the target afterwards to correct with GNSS, if you are in a position to do that. Which im on the fence whether you would be in-time. Its a shame PW4s were denied their data-link. Would be super useful for lofting bombs

Kinda my thinking.

Saturate the target with unguided bombs and then run away really really fast.

*Double the spawn cost if you’re spawning with ordinance
*Make it cost SP to rearm on the airfield

These are the 2 big ones I’ve been wanting

So CAS, any CAS, no matter how weak it is, should cost nearly as much as a nuke?

I think air with guns or A2A missile only at the price of SPAA would be great.

More jets for SPAA to kill, and more jets to fight CAS, as well as more jets for jets to fight.

Seems pretty win win

With the asterisk of a special “air only” belt lacking AP rounds, as a pure guns Yak-9K or T-18B/57 would still be very strong

I mean at those BR’s I don’t know that it really matters. You’re always going to have some capability to damage light skinned/ open top vehicles with cannon fire. But the T-18 is an attacker, so I wouldn’t think it should be available for cheap as an air defender.

I don’t really play at those BR’s a ton anymore as I’m really enjoying playing the mid-high tier AD, so if the 9k is a real problem, maybe?

You kinda need AP for A2A combat though. It’s the most reliable way to pilot snipe or wreck engines as HE will fuze on the fuselage and explode behind the pilot.

Different calibers being compared because I can’t take screenshots in-game right now, but it demonstrates the utility and I’d say - vitality - of AP rounds/shells for air to air combat.

The .50 cal AP kills faster than the 20mm HEI (if you remember that it’s 4 bullets hitting for the .50 cal so that orange turns black in a real example.)

I have … mixed opinions on that actually. I tend to find running pure stealth belts and thus mostly HEI on the Spitfire tends to work quite well. With how badly modeled the damage models are. Blowing the entire tail or a wing off with a single hit generally has proven quite a reliable way to kill for me.

Also the added bonus that they cannot see you firing at them and so defend differently / too late

Helicopters can spawn with unguided rockets and AAMS for like 250 SP so I see no reason why aircraft shouldn’t have a spawn with none ATG ordinance or AAM loadouts for nearly the same cost since you can use helis as a makeshift SPAA platform all the same.

I figure a bare jet costs 400 SP, AAMs 50+, Rockets/Bombs 200+, Laser/GNSS 300+, IR/TV 500+

Also, why tf do belts still cost 100+ SP!!! I have to use default belts on the F-16C and F-15E rather than AIR BELTS which is annoying to switch between for both AIR RB and GROUND RB

Yeah, the most effective (and quite frankly) only anit-air I currently have for Britain at top tier is to spawn an aircraft. Which costs 10x more than an SPAA, is really annoying. Not quite as extreme without Fox-3s but still insane that if I play say 7.7. I have to choose between a 5.3 SPAAG for 70 SP or a fighter for 500+ SP.
