The new processing power made available with the use of the new APG-70 radar made it practical to make use of Non-Cooperative Target Recognition (NCTR) technology, which provides the ability to distinguish more reliably between friendly and hostile aircraft. Much of the NCTR technology is highly “black” and very few details are available, but it reportedly makes it possible to avoid a lot of “friendly fire” accidents, such as the one that resulted in the loss of the IranAir Airbus in July of 1988.
The F-15C definitely does NOT need the AN/APG-63(V)2 or (V)3 at the moment.
In the future, when we get things like the F-2A, later Eurofighters, and Rafales, the F-15C absolutely should get one of its AESA radars though in my opinion.
I’ll just clear clear this up. The aircrafts configuration in game is realistic.
APG-63v1, JHMCS, CFTs, -220s is a reasonable configuration for the first F-15C in game. If you want to complain about it, complain it is missing its BOL CMs which should be in this configuration as well.
The APG-63v2 only equipped a single squadron, 18 aircraft, completing retrofit at the end of 2000. At the same time, other aircraft were only just recieving the 63v1 mod, and would continue to use it until they either left service, or were selected to be refit with the 63v3.
And because i saw someone earlier say it, no the 63v3 was not just a reliability improvement to the v2. It is a significant capability upgrade over its predecessor as well. It has an entirely redesigned antenna array ffs, to say nothing of the actual number of TR units.
Edit: its also worth noting even the base APG-63 in game is significantly underperforming, as is the 63psp and 63v1
The radra is not working as it should. As i said. There are a lot of stuff that can be made to the (V)1 so we don’t need the AESA’s just a proper implementation of the radar. But gaijobless puts their premiums at 75 dollars and can’t make a radar :))
