If it came with a stab, the answer would be yes.
I mean, those things aren’t designed to be taking fire, they’re supposed to be on a ridgeline somewhere hurling high velocity APHE out.
Different tanks fit different roles.
Tiger 2 will out gun it easily though, all you need to do is wiggle the turret and the ARL 44 round like likely bounce.

What prevents ARL-44 from handing back in second line dishing out pain? Fact that it is classified as heavy tank?
Brawling with it and leading a charge would be playing into its weaknesess.
Somua is also classified as heavy, but its best played as medium.
Its kinda moot point anyway since Tiger II with production turret sits at 6.7 (better tank gets to sit at higher BR, what a shocker) and thus it cannot meet the ARL-44 naturally.
But lets entertain the thought anyway, suppose someone uptiers ARL-44 to 5.7 and its full uptier.

I was still able to penetrate the Tiger II turret face doing some damage (I could pen it at even steeper angle but the shell did no damage).
But if the Tiger II does this, ARL-44 can just click under its commander coupola.
(you can see the gun of the first tiger behind the explosion, its shockingly reliable way to one shot it)
Point is, ARL-44 can engage Tiger II with production turret reliably. Is Tiger II still better? yes thats why it sits at higher BR. But the matchup isnt onesided.
Never denied that, but I simply dont like people discounting anything without APHE as bad.

Yeah but it’s not 120mm APHE. You have to aim for ammo if you want to one-shot, which may not always be possible.
Not really I play the surbaisse quite a bit and never really aimed for the ammo. Sure you won’t oneshot a maus but if you go through the front (not many things havbe good enough armour to stop it) you mostly spall enough to oneshot
Surbaisse is completely different to Conqueror.
Surbaisse has solid shot 120mm while Conqueror has APDS 120mm.
They do vastly different amount of damage (Conqueror’s APDS’s spall feels like 76mm - 90mm AP or something along those lines).
You can trust me since I’ve been playing the Conqueror for quite a bit and as soon as I started focusing on ammo detonation to kill (Instead of aiming for centre mass), I’ve gotten quite a bit better in it:

My problem is that is doesn’t need that extra penetration. The only situation where it can be useful is against Panthers. But then again, i’d better butcher the penetration and just add explosive so i can pen it through the turret and one shot it.
So while it’s not bad, it’s clearly not as good as a Tiger for example, while having the same br
Also, as it’s been said multiple times on this thread, the Surbaissé, Somua etc. are good thanks to their autoloader. Take it away and they clearly suffer.
Autoloader tanks shouldn’t be used when comparing APHE and AP because they have a very good tradeoff for their low damage.
And yet the CA Lorraine and Foch exist. Same guns as Surbaisse and Somua but no autoloader and at a lower BR. Clearly the autoloader just raises the BR
sure, I would like to have .50cal equivalent on all german tanks because I find the utility it provides priceless.
but sadly WT doesnt work that way, penetration is given by formula and “cards” were dealt, its up to us to play the hand.
well technically Tiger I, even the earlier one, sits at higher BR, so… but its only 0.4 BR higher so not that much of a difference to actuall matchmaking.

the Surbaisse and M103 I use the AP in it cause it spalls so much as well.

You should of stopped aiming center mass about 2 ranks before conquoror. for every tree.
Yeah they make up for being able to cupola a lot of things.
idk I’ve gotten much better success doing centre mass for a lot of AP shells – especially the Shot Mk.8.
Depends on the shell to be honest. High-Calibre AP usually one-shots via centre mass shot.
One thing for sure, though, the Conqueror requires you to aim for ammo.
You should aim for every shot.

Yup, they exist and they suck. The Foch is “playable” at least, but is incredibly frustrating with its AP shell often doing crits if the ennemy isn’t directly facing you.
The CA is straight up bad and has got to be ones of the least played vehicles. In fact i can’t recall when was the last time I saw one in battle
Foch is really good to be honest with you.
Though I agree with you that the CA is mediocre now that its mobility got nerfed.
