does tornado really need 1576 countermeasures (the vast majority of which are large caliber)

  1. Most of those are chaff-only not mixed
  2. Its a Tornado IDS, what is already considered a reasonably weak 11.3 aircraft. At 12.3. Its carried by its CM count, it has nearly nothing else going for it
  3. its a strike aircraft not a top tier fighter.

i mean even then the later F-15’s with these numbers of countermeasures (current ones can only do a measly 880 with BOL) are facing a whole different level of threat

Wrong, all the 15C does is that pulls harder and rates better up until around 550 kph, after that it stays on the losing side.

and i have shot down a F-18C with a I-15 in a 1v1 dogfight before, does that mean the I-15 is a better dogfighter than the F-18?

And they are threats BOL aren’t gonna help with. It’s ECM that should do the job in newer generation air combat.

Flares still work. And chaff maybe less effective but in combination with EW could work better

Yes, it’s still worth it. It just has had the usual "it’s not Russian so the devs have made “‘certain choices’” in how it’s implemented that negatively affect it.
