like bombers are rendered useless because of mutable reason but the main reason is not is not rewarding to fly slowly and painfully to the target, drop your payload and get shredded by rats with wings (aka the sad fatherless goblins called US fighter players) and be like second to last, in all mode is horrible to use and the worst part is ironically the aircraft that is shredding bombers are better bombers, like do you see anyone in realistic rocking up in a SM79B or a premium corsair or mustang and drop 1000 or 2000 pound bombs at you twice as fast because you clown on him for attempting spawn camping and after you drop your payload, you still a threat and can still shred anything. the point is bombers absolutely needed a huge buff, like bring back its amazing gunner AI or make it actually worth it. like the B66b was added and yall hyped until is a flying shitbox that get instantly shredded by AAM even tho it had absolutely no defense against it and already forgotten and no one wanna touch it because how awful it preform. (also on unrelated sidenote but please update the S.M.79 B, my beloved need a updated model and need another variant added, i cant stand my beloved look like PS1 resident evil)

Play arcade! In arcade, bombers have the power to win matches. If you can fly them.
(Some people also reccomend sim)
i did and is still awful, like is awful to fly and use. in fact arcade is worst
Then you have a skill issue still, because in arcade, often bombers decide the matches.
It is as if you lament that fighters don’t work in realistic.
Arcade has a limit, which is about rank 6. But there, bomber lines end anyway. Beyond that, arcade is comedy. The SM79 plays OK in arcade (not the best bomber), while the B66 is likely too high up. It is my only unspaded bomber, in fact I haven’t bought it. All other bombers of the game are spaded, many in arcade.

calling a well known issue a “skill issue” is not solving anything at all, it just sounds like you just brushing a massive issue under a rug. do you expect a italian bomber can fight off a american fighters with a single 12.7 safet or a lewis gun? it even more ironic when a fighter cant fight fighters but targeted bombers because they lack actual skills
No. A ww2 submarine can’t usually fight off a destroyer either. The point is to avoid the thread. That is where the “skill” (aka knowledge) comes in. Which 3 of 4 bomber pilots don’t seem to have in arcade.
If you have played arcade, you must have noticed people getting extremely good results in bombers (if you look at the results). Watch the replay and learn from them. That is what I did. Worked.
Lots of people can’t take off in realistic. Premium planes often explode during takeoff. That is a well known issue too. But the problem isn’t the plane.

you sound like youre brushing the actual issue under the rug, like you just dumb it down instead of saying a actual solution which is increase reward and buff the turret AI
good morning sherlock.
Yes, bombers need at least two buffs:
- Survivability buff
- turret sights that ACUALLY point to where the bullets go so when you aim to the ring in arcade you actually HIT enemies.
the sad part is that bombers are already rendered useless since fighters and interceptors can just act like better bomber but not a slow and fragile shitbox that isnt massive and rendered defenseless due to your AI turret has the intelligent of a dead rat due to it was nerfed to the ground due to whiny premium players mad that they get shredded for being too close, like do anyone wanna fly a bomber and get shredded after dropping your first bomb load which will be a miss or stolen by a fighter with a 1000 pound bomb?
And the bomber should be the destroyer in this scenario, judging as how powerful they were in real life. It’s just ridiculous that one burst of 50 cal can obliterate a heavy bomber instantly
Notwithstanding I’m not a good player, I’m moderate happy with my SM79s in Arcade.
Come play air sim.
While the damage models are still awful:
- Matches last up to 3 hours. On average, they tend to end in 90 minutes though.
- There are infinite respawns, so matches are won not by killing everyone but by draining tickets. I’ve had numerous cases where I’m flying Axis vs soviets where we lost the match because soviets decided they’ll all fly very angry IL2s and kill every ground target faster than we could intercept them.
- Best source of ticket drain is killing “Pushes”/“Ground-battles” (more of a front-line bomber/attacker thing, but some strategic bombers are also good at it)
- Second best source are bases.
- You have no markers, allowing you to pick between stealthy tree-top level sneak attacks that are very hard to spot unless you predict where the bomber is going OR climb to altitude where fighters can struggle to engage (usually you’re safe at 6 km or so given most people loiter at 3-4km altitudes).
- Fighters are flown with “Stick and rudder” controls. This means hitting targets beyond ~300-500 meters takes fairly high skill (especially if the target maneuvers). Bombers are easier to it because bigger, but it’s still a challenge.
- Fighters are flown from cockpit view. This significantly limits the angles at which they can engage you as your own cockpit blocks the view of the bomber to execute very high aspect shots at long range. You can still try. You might still hit (esp if you got a ton of ammo and experience) but it’s much less likely.
- You get third person view with gunners and mouse pointer aim (which I kind of want gone, but worth mentioning. I’d rather bombers use joystick turret control that respects the bomber’s attitude and requires manual compensation UNLESS it’s a B-29 or similar fancy targetting computer equipped monster)
- The useful actions system actually kind of benefits bombers: You get rewarded every 15 minutes of flying. Optimized, you can get some 450-600 score per 15 minutes for 75-86% reward income. (How to optimize: War Thunder Bomb Chart - EC Sim - Google Spreadsheets)
- Sometimes you can get escort fighters randomly.
- You can join the Team Sim discord to organize flyouts with wingmen.
Flying sim does NOT require VR, headtracking or an expensive HOTAS. An x-box controller or even mouse & keyboard are more than adequate - especially in bombers (but also super agile fighters like 109 F-4. WT Live // Controls by RunaDacino - fighter optimized MnK controls)
