I can't shoot anything with R-24R with Mig-23ML

Hello.

I’m new to the Mig-23ML which I purchased 2 weeks ago. So far I’ve been successful in shooting down aircrafts in test mode with R-60M and R-24R b, but in real game I’ve fired 8 or 9 R-24R so far and none hit a plane.
All I do is hit repeatedly press “Alt+F” to target a plane and lock on it, then Alt + Ctrl to fire the missile once its locked.
I was well in range, heading straight towards the enemy planes, and I fired a salvo of 2 R-24R at the same time. None hit. Then I fired 2 more, none hit too!
What am I doing wrong?
I was maybe 12 kms away from the target.
Do I need to be closer?
Also do I need to keep tracking the target once I launched the missile or can I switch to another target?

Hello,

It’s been a while since I played it, but yeah, you have to keep your lock on, and the radar can sometimes be a problem.

Try targeting higher targets; it’s easier, and the closer you are, the better, but don’t go 200 meters away.

Alternatively, if you want to grind quickly, you can also grab two napalms and rush a base, then try to get 1/2 kills with your missiles, but that’s a bit of a tedious gameplay mechanic.

And by tracking a radar target and getting close enough, you can get ballistic assistance from the gun, which greatly facilitates firing.

Can you show a video of how you play the mig-23ml?

You have to keep it on track until the missile have hit the target before you can switch to another target.

Here is the video of my game. Please note that at the beginning I make a go around because I didn’t want to be targeted, then I engage multiple targets.
Somehow I don’t know why the system switched to the R-60 in game because I still had R-24R available in the pylons.
As you can see I was well within range of the missile in any case.

(and please tell me how I managed to fire a missile at a friendly ??A Kfir. There is no IFF on Mig-23??)

Is it possible for you to screen record or record it with your phone? The link is unfortunatly not working for me.

Here it is: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RaisQ6eyRWzWPdy6GZbbgFUbN0ttUGdC/view

Can you please share the link to public? I need access.

Here it is. Sorry for that: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RaisQ6eyRWzWPdy6GZbbgFUbN0ttUGdC/view?usp=sharing

Ok, so I have watched your video. You’re shooting it very far away. You can launch your R-24R at 8 km if both of you are going in for a head-on. If the enemy is running away, you can fire it around at 5 km. For the R-60M you would want to go around 2-3KM, it ran out of energy as soon as it motor ran out of fuel.

If you want to do BVR, you would have to climb at 10,000 m and fire a missile around 15-25 km at an target that is coming toward you; this only works for the R-24R. Remember it’s a Fox 1, so you have to keep it locked until it hits the target. It doesn’t have DL, so it can’t be reclocked. Also it seems to me that your plane is refusing to fold it wings to go faster, so put it on auto folding.

holy moly

Youre doing rear aspect, lauching from 10km. You need to be under 5km ideally for 24R/T rear
The first guy you launch then fly away. Need to maintain lock.

The 2nd, bad launch. Crosses behind hill, so youll lose lock.
If youre often firing from behind people as opposed to headon/further away, id suggest swapping to 24T. Youd likely have better luck with it.

Thank you for your feedback. I tried to fire before being locked and engaged by other jets. But I guess I’ll have to take more risks and go nearer, which puts me at risk.
By the way what is the keybinding to switch from R-24R to R-60 and back and forth?

“Switch secondary weapons” You have to bind a key on it.

You will get use to it.

If you’re really struggling, find a youtube video of someone playing the 23ML and watch how and when they launch their missiles, and how they use their radar.
Make sure you have all the key binds set up for missiles/radar, and know how to use them. Once you’ve done that, then practice a bit to make sure it works before hopping back into air rb
