I was discussing War Thunder with a friend, explaining the BR system, and how it assigns tanks a BR according to their performance, and how this system sometimes sees tanks from very different eras fighting each other.
For fun, I thought I’d calculate the biggest age discrepancies possible to see in a ground realistic battle. Enjoy!
Overall, the biggest age gap could occur in a nominally 7.7 game, in which case a Maus, everyone’s favorite world war II era behemoth, could face a PGZ09, an SPAA produced in the late 2000’s. A difference of almost 70 years.
If people find this interesting, I could do the same for aircraft.
Please note this is purely for fun, and not meant to purport some opinion on certain vehicles BR placements.
I calculated this using the datamine repository and additional tool to coalesce the vehicle date into a database. I coincided the programmatic vehicle names with localized English datamine content to associate every vehicle with its more human-recognizable name. Since date of original production/manufacture isn’t a metric contained in the datamine, I used a very easily guessable software to fill in those blanks, which I think is forgivable given the 1000+ entries. Please note that due to this, there are liable to be inaccuracies, please let me know about them here so I can update them and re-generate the output. I will edit this post when I do.
You can find the database table I’m using here (https://ce.gl/wt-fun) which I will also update according to the above. I’ve ommitted the heavier fields for my own bandwidth’s pleasure and made it green for yours.
Here is the data output summary for individual BRs, as well as BR ranges (e.g. BRs that are capable of being matched together, that differ by a maximum of 1.0).
