but the brochure doesnt show this active armor, it shows the standard armor
There is the next photo after adding the reservation in this brochure, if I find it I will send it here
i guess you mean this one, but there is a difference between a remote weapon station and armor., additonaly where does it say it is forbidden for export? https://www.spartanat.com/2023/08/der-neue-leopard-2a7hu-ist-in-ungarn/
Yes, I’m talking about it. This is not mentioned anywhere, as it is internal information. If you look at other countries that use a similar model, you won’t find it anywhere
Well either way, i am not well versed in the armor kits, but those are definitly something i would love to see in the future for the german tanks, i take it only used on the Leo 2A7V for germany currently?
In fact, only on “PSO” and “+”, nowhere else
Leopard 2A5 PSO ? well that would mean we would get it on the datamined Leo that would be nice, but the Leopard 2A7+ is based on the Leopard 2A7Q and isnt being used in the german army, the PSO isnt realy in use either is it? That would mean the armor does exist but nobody uses it
The PSO was made for urban combat, and it did not live up to the desires, so another modification was made. Just, modifications “+”, armor is used on it, it just does not go for export
Found this pciture of the Q, but to much camouflage covering for me to see if it has the active armor
Nope, you can look at the tower, since it goes along with the hull
true i guess, i guess this means the armor kit gives up most of the smoke launchers then and the ones from remote weapon station are needed as a result
The armor which is in the broshure is actually in storage in Hungary, according to some HTKA forum members (who are often soldiers…). Those arrived before the tanks themselves, if its true…
What you call active armor? Because since Leopard 2A5 the Leos are using SLERA. This is basically NERA but the rubber in it contains some explosive. This mix is usually called Dottikon, and against shaped charges its much more effective than NERA, almost like ERA. However the add-on armour you call PSO is not containing any explosive - it not being active…
The turret top of these Leo 2A7HU howewer looks like its different from Strv 122’s turret top, and that probably means it also have some Dottikon/SLERA in it to improve protection against top attack munitions/drones.
The smoke Launchers would probably be behind the armour panels.
oh intresting
There is no confirmation of this yet, only 2A7HU arrived not long ago, and even then a small part. Active Armor = Reactive Armor, in my language they are the same. Given that other countries do not use additional armor protection for the “+/V” modification, it already says that such protection is not exported. The same “TUSK” kit is also not exported to other countries
But SLERA is self-limiting explosive reactive armour… And its the part of the main armor of the Leos since A5 (wedges have it). So basically all A5, A6, A7 have reactive armor parts - which were exported. Puma also have them, probably Lynx and Boxer too.
You didn’t understand me, I’m talking about external armor protection that was added to the existing one
You mean the side modules? Those were exported already to for example Canada. A4M CAN has them.
