Fast speed, good turret armor, weak hull armor. stabilized guns
What does that mean? It gives massive advantages to those winning the first wave of fight, as tanks can just shoot and scoot, with the non hull down side having little to no chance to advance or fight back.
Hull down and shoot and scoot is a valid tactic that is utilized in real life, but it should not dominate the meta.
This is a example of a actually good map that is nicely paced, doesnt’ hand hold the hull-downers (and spawncampers) too much. We need more maps like it.
Advance To The Rhine is a example of where “I spawned to storm 5 spawncampers and got a nuke” style of superhero storeis happen. Good luck fighting hull down spawncampers.
PS: I have to say, I love top tier tanks and what they offer. But it is only fun and fair on urban maps, where both teams battle fiercely to death.
Not to be a contrarian, but I love city maps. I’m akin to Walter in Big Lebowski:
(talking to The Dude) We’re gonna see some tank battles… Fighting in desert is very different from fighting in canopy jungle. I mean that was a foot-soldier’s war - Whereas this thing here should, uh… y’know - Should be a piece of cake. I mean, I had an M16 Jacko, not an Abrams fing tank. Me and Charlie - eyeball to eyeball. That’s fing combat. The man in the black pajamas, Dude. Worthy f*in’ adversary.
Good ol’ close quarters fighting, that’s f***ing combat - none of that sweaty sniping from a ridge across the map.
wait until you face Strv122 and T-80BVM in urban map with you and your team in tanks with weak ass frontal hull armor and it stomp your team hard
or get CAS’ed within 3 min because someone decide to go fast capture with light tank and J out to spawn CAS
it might change your mind about small cluster F map.
All I get is Advance to the Rhine, Normandy, Ardennes, Abandoned Factory and Town, Seversk, Breslau, Sweden, Japan, Carpathians, Middle East, Sun City, Spaceport, North Holland, Test Site 2271, Golden Quarry, Fulda and Finland I sure wish I knew what OP was talking about.
If you like CQB, don’t bother modern vehicles into that and go to 5.7 instead.
Having laser rangefinders, stabilized guns, thermal optics, 12x zoom, etc. To engage a target that’s only at 126m or behind a indestructible corner of a building is the definition of delusion.
Because not all tanks are built equal, a huge number of the higher tier tanks are not designed for CQB brawls. They are designed for hull down. To play them in a different way is against their nature
are they? I rejoice when 1/50 matches I play are on those kinds of maps. Most are mostly or entirely tiny CQB battles that suck.
Given how people do not really know how to move effectively around maps and use terrain I dont see an issue with “hull down” dominated maps.
Amount of people that skyline themselves and go in straight lines instead of using terrain, mainly valleys to conceal their movement is stupidly high. I personally rather take valley even if it means it will take me slightly longer to reach position rather then just go straight and skyline myself.
But this is what happens in game, just watch what players do any match and you will realize people just ask to get shot.
