Look, I don’t really play naval but i’ve heard some talk about how submarines could be added to war thunder, and I though my idea was alright, but feel free to tell me what you think. Essentially, I think submarines should have a different tech tree to other naval vehicles, and have their own game mode. My idea is pretty similar to helicopter PVE, but with two teams. Essentially, there would be two teams equipped with only submarines, controlled by players. Similar to heli pve, there would be convoys to attack and defend, with each convoy lost reducing the tickets of a team until one gets drained to 0. The convoys would consist of ai controlled vessels (not submarines). One team would be tasked with attacking the convoy, one with defending it. The attackers would have to destroy the convoy before it reaches a certain coordinate on the map. Similar to Air RB, players would show up on a minimap so that gameplay isn’t tedious and that battles can occur. I think there should also be points to cap, however, these wouldn’t be traditional points. I think that they should be one-time captures, which either team can get, and dissapear when captured. They would drain a set amount of points when captured, but unlike ground rb, would dissapear instead of continuing to drain points. With my attacking convoys idea, i think attacking and defending should be rotated twice each per game, to ensure that the teams are balanced. What do y’all think?
That is basically what the submarine testing event was.
One team in subs trying to sink convoys while the other team was in sub chasers.

Personally, I think adding some Ai subs to the regular games modes we now have for naval might be interesting . . with some limitations ofc.
For example: The Ai subs would not be able to take out player controlled ships with any “laser dart torpedoes” as the Ai AAA do to planes, that would be extreme. But, they should be able to take out enemy Ai ships, therefore adding to ticket drain and working the game to a conclusion.
This would give “incentive” for players to “search & destroy” the enemy Ai subs, while also giving subchasers and other ships with depth charges something else to do and additional ways to score.
All positives for the players.
There should be other “rules”, like not getting into or too close to enemy spawns.
The torpedo range should prolly be limited some as well.
Player ships might also be equipped with radar/sonar features to help with locating the
Ai subs and make it more of a “hunt” . .
But in the end, the amount of coding and work required to make this, or any other kind of submarine
interaction possible will most likely be a deciding factor.
We have had some submarine events in the past, so they do have some things to work with for any
kind of “standalone” sub play. And I am sure many naval fans would enjoy that to a degree.
Getting subs(player controlled) into regular randoms battles will be a chore at the very least.
But I am a “never say never” kinda guy, so hopefully naval will soon garner enough players to spur Gaijin to make a bigger/faster effort in this regard. They have been adding ships/new content and
seem to be making game play/mechanic changes, so that is a good sign.
I don’t really think they should be in random battles, it would be the equivalent of cas in ground rb. Radar on ships would be pretty nice, there would also have to be designated sub chasers to ensure that the aren’t too powerful. If they were to implement ai subs, they would have to only have incredibly close range weaponry and be easily detectable, no one wants to play a game where u get spam killed against bots
Submarines should be in the bluewater fleet, not in a different tech tree, and in the same game mode as everyone else.
