as I agree with most points, one issue should also be mentioned here. The decrease of target acquisition time (only AB) which was implemented previously to last update. This resulted in a huge nerfe of coastal boats! Now one often get killed shortly after spawning by a ship from the bluewater spawn. Previously the targetting time was mostly too long to lock on a coastal boat before it got cover behind a island. Now only 1-2 s is enough to be able to get a hit. And the SKR7/1 has now nearly a laser rangefinder.
This brings me to the 2.point - the already mentioned decompression. We have 4.3 boats and frigates which never can compete with their counterparts - compare PR206 with german Pfeil or Hugin - there is no universe in which the latter win a 1:1 vs the PR206 which even kills landing crafts like Alano or Asagao in seconds. Compare Köln with SKR - the same issue.
There is also the matchmaker which often gives only one side PR206 (in a 4.3 match) and the other has only 3.3 or 3.7 coastals resulting in a slaughter. I have a screenshot from todays match where enemy team has 2 PR206 which has after a few minutes much more kills as all other players in the match together.
Only just realised this was an AB topic. I only play RB, whoops.
But I’m sure this problem is essentially the same for both AB and RB, the problem being what I’d like to call ‘The Ambulance chaser’ problem. These players are the sort that will sit there doing nothing until the team has got an enemy down to critical health and then they go all guns blazing out of nowhere to come in and take the kill - since it seems to be kills and not as much damage that determines score. At first I thought these guys were just reloading, since some guns take a while - but no, they’re purposely sniping kills.
Something like the “severe damage” mechanic on air would help. If you dealt enough damage to an enemy vessel you should be credited a kill, no matter who delivers the finishing blow.
Yeah, that’s what I would vote for as well.
I agree with most of the points, I even mentioned one of them in a thread of my own;
Boats are completely useless in encounter
The decompression is severely needed. I use my Raimondo+EdS lineup every day and yet more often than not I am forced to fight impossible enemies like the Courbet, Nassau, etc. etc. Also on the Pr.206 parable, in the extremely rare downtier I get I usually pity the 3.3 boats, as they are merely the victim of said compression.
For the non-naval players out there, if you thought the F-86 vs F-104 problem was bad, then naval is far worse.
Do you want to attract more players or just to fix the mechanics?
Yeah, it’s rough when you want to play coastal but they put you on a map like that. I begrudgingly bring a DD/CL or CA, but I’m also tempted to just go back to hanger and load up a ground battle, instead. I’m all for combined battles - I’m not calling for coastal only, but make sure each map has something for the coastal to spawn for. Like, sure, you can slug off some long lance torps and nuke a heavy ship sitting in spawn 10-15 minutes later, but you can also launch some good torps in the blue water ships, so that point is a bit moot. I don’t mind bringing coastal to blue water dominated maps when I can cap points and make an actual difference in the coastal vessel.
Sounds like the exact same thing to me.
Not really. Fixing is just balancing and spreading BR’s. Bringing more players is totally something else.
My idea of bringing more players would be to introduce a lot more modern boats and put them planes in the gamemode (like GRB) because i think that are a lot of people playing GRB just for CAS and nothing else. That would be the idea with naval too because most of the players play aircraft
Sounds like a terrible idea. Plenty more WW2 ships yet to come, especially ones that will bring people to War Thunder from WOWS - such as… well most of the US/British battleships, Bismark/Tirp, Yamato, and so on. But if the fundamentals are not in place and coastal/bluewater is sloppily done, then it doesn’t matter what vessels they add to it. You seem to think everyone just plays War Thunder for air, it just isn’t true. And I think you’re underestimating ground players and why they’re playing ground.
Idk. Think that would attract more people tho
some good ideas, but as I posted before they should also really expand enduring confrontation for ships
I don’t agree with modern ships. Just bunch of ships launching missiles at each other and hope it hits. Worse, knowing the game, they will put these things at 8.0, worse, 7.0. So it will become another “Fox 3” but for Naval.
As i said. I don’t really know. Maybe it is just a stupid ideea but i think it would attract players. As someone who played naval 3 times since i started playing wt, i think that would make me want to play a bit more
1- No.
2 - yes and no. Cause not many players.
3 - No
4 - Why not.
5 - change only the fact that coastal cannot face bluewater. But frigate can fight destroyers.
6 - Yes.
First they need to fix “connection to server lost” , I play all modes and this is happening contatlly on NAVAL!!!
flags are more stupid on some maps, they just need to adjust the BRs you get these maps.
They could add more intresting modes like to stop an invation or kill an aircraft carrier etc.
GOD no
This really needs alot of work, some maps you spawn full speed towards and island and in all maps they need to spread the spawns
They recendly added it and it makes the game more “realisticly” challenging
GOD no
Why not? A lot of ships are poorly designed and makes them more or less unplayable. I need to point no further than the French battleships.
They recendly added it and it makes the game more “realisticly” challenging
It makes lots of boats unplayable. Especially the gun boats with large caliber (76mm+) manual loading guns. Would not be that bad if every boat was like that. But when you account for waves, the 40mm boats will be overwhelmingly superior. I don’t need to mention the Pr 206.
Then they should fix them and in fact add more stuff in them, it is stupid to get hit by 3X 30KG shells and them overpen and not brake the keel.
If I want to play Naval with hitpoint I would play WoS.
You need to find the optimum speed, you can’t go flank and have hits in all boats.
If you are talking about extreme weather then I haven’t noticed.
There’s no way to fix this without introducing fictional ammo layout.
I feel like people aren’t talking about the decrease in target acquisition in arcade enough. I’ve been biting my tongue since the update to see how it plays out, but it is getting absolutely ridiculous. It’s almost instant range-finding, which combined with the preservation of last-ship-range-finding-preserved has meant there is no real penalty for destroyers to start lobbing and shooting, with fantastic accuracy, at coastal ships from the start and from upwards of 10km out. I have personally been pinpoint hit and killed right out of spawn in that exact manner more times than I can count now.
As it stands, rangefinding has been nerfed to essentially a pointless mechanic- it is nearly instantaneous, constantly updates instantly, and can allow transition from target to target with minimal to no penalty. It’s part of the dumbing-down of NAB and it harmful to coastal players especially, as destroyers can now pinpoint and easily track and hit coastal vessels from multiple kilometers, at ranges that previously were considered at least somewhat safe from their gun fire. It’s also allowing players to immediately be under accurate fire from the first couple seconds, incapacitating their ships before they can even move away from spawn.
Bring back slower range finding, bring back less ACCURATE range finding, make players actually have to learn to adjust their fire, watch their shot fall, and adjust to the changing speeds and distance closing/widening between their ships and enemy ships. While we’re at it, not allowing AA guns on destroyers to open fire at 4, 5km out from a coastal ship would be nice too- there’s been times where the AA gunners just randomly are hosing down a coastal ship from that distance without rhyme nor reason. They SHOULD be able to fire, ofc, but maybe not from across the entire map?
