How to become a better jet bomber? 11.3

Hello guys,

I’m a long term arcade player, and I honestly like it better, but I’m researching the Japanese air tree in which there is only one plane in the lineup Which air RB is more suitable, rather than leaving after every death in AB which is not contributing much to the team.

Before you rage at me for bombing, I’ll let you know I’m playing the infamous F-4EJ; I face uptiers every single game against F-4S, MiG-23MLD, and even F-14s. The AN/APQ-120 simulated in the game, just isn’t up for the task; I much rather the F-4EJs get AIM-9L than non functional radar missiles.

I hopped onto RB, but is facing the same problem as in AB; I would fly in treetops, hoping to reach a bomb target, unleash the bombs, destroy the base then die. A lot of the times the enemy planes can simply turn towards me, and fire their MAGIC (rear aspects) and other missiles, in which flares does not work against missiles from the rear.

I hope to become a better bomber, and learn some tricks and tips from you guys…thanks!

Do not bomb in the F-4EJ. There is no such thing as being a “good bomber”

If you learn how to properly do air combat with it and focus on taking down players, you’ll find you earn way more RP and SL. Yes, the premium F-4EJ is in a really rough BR and is a direct downgrade to other F-4s in the same BR, you just have to work with that fact. But you still shouldn’t be performing the activity that nets you less RP, victories and knowledge of the game.
Even if you did learn how to basebomb efficiently, by the time you reach that fancy plane you’re grinding towards the only thing you’ll know how to do with it is basebomb.

Do yourself a favour and learn how to excel in air combat in a sub-par plane so you may perform well when you finally reach the good planes you’re grinding for.

I got a few tips that may help. They won’t make you kill proof, but they will increase your odds.

  • Never fly straight towards the bases.
  • Stay below contrail altitude. Contrails stick out like a sore thumb. It’s usually around 5600 meters on warm maps but it’s much lower on colder maps (around 2000 meters)
  • Don’t be afraid to climb, most players are hugging the ground and don’t look up.
  • Use CCRP and Toss bombing.
  • Set keybind for “Switch mission bombing point” under the weapons controls section.
  • Pay close attention to the score boards. You’ll be safest when the enemy only has a few players left
  • Pay close attention to what your teammates are doing, look at their payloads and make sure they aren’t darting for a base that you’re plan to bomb.
  • Destroy Convoys. A full convoy gives about the same rewards as a base.

CCRP and Bomb Tossing

The CCRP (Computer Controlled Release Point) is the computer in your aircraft the tells you when to release your bombs. It’s used to accurately hit targets from further away. It enables you to bomb bases without the need to be pointing directly at it or being directly above it. You can select a target point, level out your plane, then just hold down your release button until your bombs drop. It also allows you to essentially “toss” your bombs by releasing them in during a climb.

Select a target point. you can do this by using the “switch mission bombing point” or “Activate target point” button. If you use active target point, the target point will be wherever your nose is pointing.

Once you do this, a red square will appear. This is your target point. A vertical green line appears as well. That green vertical line indicates the flight path you need to take in order to line up your bomb release.

Line up your aircraft with the green line. Pressing the bomb release button will do nothing once you activated a target point. You cannot release you bombs until your CCRP gives you permission. This permission is given once your CCRP knows the bomb will hit its target. This means you can hold your bomb button until you line up your trajectory and your bombs will release as you reach your release point.

The small circle will move up towards the horizontal line. This means that you are getting closer to the release point. Hold your bomb release button (an X will appear on the circle) until it lines up with the horizontal line. The bombs will drop automatically.
Release point

How will this help? It extends the range of your bombs and allows you to accurately bomb targets from further away, allowing you to avoid danger before and after dropping your payload. You can practically bomb enemy bases before you pass friendly bases. When you toss your bombs, they take much longer to hit your targets. There’s a high chance friendly players will take out most of the bases before you even make it to them. If you flank, you can wait undetected and loiter while the bases respawn, or you can pick off the bases and targets that were left behind.

Here are a few examples of bomb tossing tactics:

With all that being said, bombing is terrible in Air realistic battles. You’re are essentially just food for fighters and dead weight for your team. For most phantoms in air RB, you’re better off are as a missile truck playing the support role, taking out distracted or unsuspecting enemies. If you really want to grind with bombing, do it in sim battles. The F-4 is a jack of all trades. You can bomb 2 bases then fight and intercept other aircraft afterwards.

Thanks for the detailed reply; I’ll try out the CCRP tactics, and that stuff is interesting to me because it will not only help in base bombing but also CAS, both against Ai ground targets and player tanks.

I’m aware of this; I’ve read on good players and they perform less than optimal with this jet, with a poor kills per battle record.

I also carry heatseekers for the F-4EJ in the event I come across someone in the back, and I will fire these against AI or player targets

Its another step up and much harder still. But if bombing/ground attack is an area of genuine interest. Then nothing beats Air Sim. Until such time we get an RB EC gamemode. Sim offers the best PvPvE gameplay.

There is always something to bomb and strike aircraft have the room to evade the enemy team and no markers makes stealth gameplay viable. You do need to learn how to fly in full-controls and from cockpit, but with some practice its a doddle. a game controller or HOTAS is recommended but not needed.
