How the f&^* do I disable auto-leveling of the aircraft when using mouse and keyboard? No matter what SAS mode I use it still does it

Dude, just fly in damping or manual. It’s the “Toggle SAS mode” keybind thing. I assume you know this since you’re in manual mode by default, so you must’ve switched it to auto levelling by yourself?

Auto levelling is mainly there to help you stay straight for certain bombing applications

damping and manual control BOTH DO IT TOO, I already said that in the OP title.

They don’t. It has to be another issue, possibly the “control mode” you’re in?

full real controls with mouse joy dude.

No, the “control mode”, it’s 4 steps above “toggle SAS mode”

Also, check roll axis, it could have something to do with “keep value for disabled axis”

???

Hmm. I don’t play with m&k so not super familiar.

I think I know what’s causing your issues though. You’re controlling your roll with ‘A’ and ‘D’?

“Mouse Joystick” basically turns your mouse into the joystick, you can see it on your screen as that white dot with 4 white bars around it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTtazyAtqWU&t=1616s (the only guy I know playing with mouse-joystick, you can see him moving the middle white dot around with his mouse).

Is your white dot always in the middle? Maybe it “thinks” your mouse is always centred, and therefor acting as if the planes joystick is centred, except for when you are overriding it with the roll inputs inside roll control?

Try removing those keybinds in roll-control and see if you can steer it with just the mouse

Do me a favor, go into test drive sim, and roll your aircraft inverted then release the stick and don’t apply any inputs. Does your aircraft, entirely without your input, deflect the ailerons/stabilators/elevons in a way that rolls your aircraft back over?

It does not roll me over, I stay inverted. I’m using a controller though with “none” set as control mode.

I just asked a m&k player, I think your issue is just a limitation with mouse joystick, it’s a very simplistic form of flying.

He said he’s using “Relative control” as “control mode”. Try setting it to that

Yes it can be done in relative control mode, but I cannot use relative control because I have to move my mouse continuously in the direction I want my control surfaces to deflect, and that is simply impossible without an infinitely long/wide desk and arms that stretch like Mr. Fantastic. The only M/K option that can actually be used to fly an aircraft is Mouse Joy, but it still has instructor like overrides despite instructor being disabled.

I believe you basically need an analogue switch of some kind if you want to be able to regulate your pull with M&K. The only other option is either relative control or the limitations of mouse-joystick, the guy in the video did manage to roll past 90° but likely through other inputs, he also seemed to be pretty limited in roll. If you have a controller laying around from a Playstation or Xbox, those are surprisingly good for war thunder sim, it’s what some of the best players I know are using. I have access to another m&k users keybinds that you can try though. I’ll send a DM.

I’ve actually managed to fix my issue by modifying my config file. Now all I have to do to have full control over my aircraft with mousejoy is slightly deflect and retract my roll axes before take off and I can fly inverted with just mouse and I don’t need to keep tapping a/d or holding my mouse in the roll direction to stay in my roll angle, and the instructor no longer applies counter inputs to try and shove the aircraft back to level, the only downside is now I cannot use a/d to roll my aircraft because if I apply full deflection in one direction it will stay deflected until I tap the opposite directions input enough times to go back into neutral deflection. I’ll try and figure out a way to make my roll inputs go back to neutral when I stop holding a/d, but that is a problem for another day, i’m sick of fucking around with my keybinds lol.

edit: I’ve attached my controls file if anyone wants to give mouse joystick that actually behaves like a joystick a try.
muh controlssssssssssss.blk (18.2 KB)

its not the instructor its just how the aircraft flies but if you can’t roll then thats something set up with your controls

@Numba_1_Manchurian_Chankoro Can you record your gameplay?

Please explain:

  1. What plane are you flying
  2. Screenshot of your control scheme
  3. Step-by-step explanation of what actions you take as you perform your take off and enter level flight
  4. Your attempt at performing maneuvers (what actions you take in what order).

Your posts do not contain any actionable information people can actually read and give you advice on.

Edit: Reading further down you did provide details, but you still havn’t given a full screenshot of how your mouse joystick is set-up.

That would be aerodynamics for you

…no?? planes dont magically fly level if you roll.

So I’ve finally figured out what the actual problem was, when Mouse Joystick is set to the simplified setting, it has some instructor enabled ,despite the instructor setting being disabled, that will automatically try to keep the aircraft in level flight when it is rolled past a 90 degree bank angle. Changing this setting to “standard” instead of simplified completely disables any automatic instructor inputs.

The culprit can be found here if you are also suffering from this issue.

What now…?

I have exactly the same problem as you. I was really confused back then. I didn’t change any keyboard settings at all. They secretly changed this , and that messed up the layout I used for SB before. When I switched the Mouse joystick mod to Standard, my mouse was reversed. I had to reset the Y axis. So now I have to set up two sets of keyboards, one for SB and one for RB.
