If you can think of another gamemodes that has as much validity as tank only, this argument can be made. But all other gamemodes are inherently less valid, and would be a lot less popular.
IMO this is a fake issue. I could be an argument against something like “No Missile”, where WW2 Fans could reasonably ask for their own (No post war), and so on. But Tank Only is clearly a level above tho 2.
Those thing can be asked for together.
You can ask for TO, AND for Improvement between SPAA vs CAS, AND SPAA vs Tanks.
Let me make a silly example.
You are playing War thunder on your computer when suddently, Freddy jumpscare you and you pass out.
You wake up and your friends tells you to use a camera to stall him and neutralize him so you can back to playing.
Does this make your experience playing worse than without freddy, despite the solution?
I’d wager that not matter the counter you have, it stills make the overall experience worse.
Why? Because:
No matter what you do, you might get jumpscare by freddy. This alone makes the experience worse.
After this, you can neutralize freddy, But you are here to play, not to mess with freddy, you might just not care about FnaF gameplay. And this is perfectly fair.
Even after you deal with freddy and you are back to playing, the problem is not gone. Bonny, Chicka or Foxy can still come and jumpscare you.

When you say, X problem is bigger than Y problem. You are not saying that Y is not a problem. Just ranking them by importance.
This is the same thing:
Tank Only validity comes from the fact that Tanks are a massive part of the game, and the only class of vehicle that has no gamemode for them only. (I guess boat too but they kinda lack the playerbase to split so…)
Plane can fight themselves, AND tanks, And boats.
Further, it’s the alternative gamemode that would have the most player interested.
A no missile gamemode would only affect Air from 8.0 and up,
A WW2 only would only affect 6.7 and down for tanks.
A Tank Only would affect all BR, with the vehicle class the most popular in the game.
Out of all the alternative gamemode, it’s the easiest to implement (since it can literally be done in custom battles, right now).

Lost 3 ^%$$%^ tanks in 1 game to CAS just then, even went SPAA and that just got me killed faster, can’t track a 800kph 262 in a slow firing SPAA.
They should not have massive 5 ton bombs at mid tier and SPAA need a major buff. God that class makes me want to quit this game. I’ll just start quitting out on open maps once the planes start appearing, less frustrating.
you shouldve enabled your ESP and aimbot and easily killed that underpowered and slow aircraft, SPAA are so overpowered.
they should give all planes a nuke in the default loadout because SPAA are so op.
Here is a skill issue. I wasn’t hitting that Bf 109 F4 with enough dedication, so after 3 37mm Mineshells (I analysed the replay, all 3 hits were 37mm Mineshells, one simply gave him yellow nose, because the damage is THAT dogshit) he was still flying fine, luckily my teammate in a plane ended him.

in probably years of forum discussion, there has never been a valid counterpoint to TO.
so far weve only heard cope such as “there are other more important issues”, “it will affect matchmaking”, “it will split the community”, “its unfair to CAS players who deserve free kills”, “it makes SPAA useless in that specific gamemode”
as much as i surely support that, i just want to point out three problems that exist ingame that usually restrict usage of that principles.
First of all, maps. Insufficient if its a big map, like fields of poland, or big maps, like poland - maps usally dont appreciate the top tier SPAA (both with FNF and ATGM-like missiles, but the most recent ones are even more countered my that as they are huge enough and require to setup at least two machines) moving away from spawn - that makes them super vulnerable for tanks of the enemy team.
Second, is the FNF system. The most recent SPAA dont have that problem, however them ADATS, Pantsir and others with ATGM-like rockets are stuck with guiding the rocket, when planes are packed with FNF ammunition and maneuver away. That makes it easier for a plane to attack and retreat, leaving SPAA either with a mission to destroy rockets and survive or try destroying a plane and die. And sometimes planes can shoot out those ammunition after being hit, making SPAA even more vulnerable.
Last one is - visual contact. Using the most recent SPAA, its no doubt yoy can use the described tactic. However, shooting to a plane leaves you with a need to move further, now making you move two machines one after another. And with previous top tier SPAA, its practically harder to shoot if you position yourself in a forest. As you lack of visual contact. And the rockets dont like to be shot to trees.
I suppose the firs problem is most “hot” right now, as new SPAA complexes solve the second problem partially, and the third is sufficiently solved with firs one in pair.

Map design at top tiers does not enable decent SPAA play. constrained to tiny maps with no cover and spawns positioned on the rear boundary - there is often nowhere to go, and if you do try and go somewhere, your bigass vehicle is exposed to direct LoS to enemy ground.
There are a few that do allow this, and I’ve had some good SPAA games on them (8+ Aircraft kills) - but the majority you a corralled into a tiny space ripe for getting bombed/missiled/sniped.
