How player skill with SPAA effects the CAS problem

That is genuinely extremely impressive. I can only recall two games in Imp.Chapoy where I saw multiple enemies spawn, and in one an F3H-2 was killing em b4 they got into range, and the other I got 4 kills, and recorded and shared it to the forum (only for ppl to still try and claim SAMs are too weak lol).

I played at least 2 dozen Chappy games over the course of two days to get that single game with multiple enemy planes.

Over the course of 2 days huh?

I can give you the benefit and assume it was before April, but the problem becomes, Is this still relevant, since WT meta change every month with BR changes.

It still sees all the same planes.

I did some tests and yes, the dispersion is quite large, and that added to the fact that it has no barrel convergence.

@RunaDacino - out of honest curiosity, why do you recommend nerfing CAS yet again like that hasn’t been tried 20+ times before as the solution to the SPAAG vs CAS imbalance?

Realistic mode is pretty much defined by 3rd person camera and Mouse Aim controls.

Why not buff SPAAGs’ ability to hit planes instead? SPAAG operated in groups usually to swat single planes in reality, and in a 1v1 scenario, much like 4-engine heavy bombers in Air RB, they will lose much of the time assuming the pilot isn’t a complete idiot.

I really don’t understand that logic about “just nerf CAS some more, it’ll finally work this time…” that you and others have. Idk how long you have been around in this game, but we’ve been trying that logic for a decade now with not much to show for it…

IMHO, nerfs of any kind should only be emergency last resorts, with the “go-to” strategy to resolving balancing snags being “buff a counter” instead, followed by “add new vehicle to counter existing problem one” if a potential counter to be practically buffed doesn’t already exist.

My ideal is implementing a tank only mode.

If we can’t get that, I’d rather CAS not make it impossible to play. You got planes in the air less than 3 minutes into the game dropping bombs and APHE nuking and .50 cal strafing tanks that are still moving into position.

I can’t think of much in ways of buffing WW2 SPAA as a PREVENTIVE measure. Like sure, you might catch CAS after it already dropped the bomb and killed your teammate but that’s not a consolation to your teammate, is it?

Yep, Oerlikon 30 and 35mm IRL are incredibly accurate even at very large range. In WT they’re closer to shotguns. Only times you’ll hit anything with them is when some dude does a close by fly by unless you are lucky enough to have proxy. The same applies to some other auto cannons. Not the 2S38 though.

So you’re better off using them as fragile TD’s, which they are surprisingly good at. Rather than what they were intended to. IRL they can hit tiny drones at huge distances.

@Ckasaron Third person works for tanks because of fairly limited PoV, planes don’t have that. They can see a HUGE part of the battlefield. Even tracers whom they normally don’t see unless they whizz by directly in front of the cockpit become something benefitting them and hurting the SPAAs using them.

Giving them short-range lead indicators based on crew rangefinding skill is what I’d personally do for them. We cannot realistically change the core aspects of the game mode that planes happen to unequally benefit from - what we can change is whether or not SPAAGs in WW2 tier have any practical compensation for said core aspects.

The only true preventative measure is allowing fighters (or better yet all planes) as first-spawn options, albeit expensive ones, with no ability to earn SP, just like Simulator Mode already does. It’s a leagues better SP system than RB’s slop is. The entire “earn SP for better vehicle” is inherently unbalanceable in my eyes.

Then, there wouldn’t be one team with M18s rush-capping and jumping in planes the moment they got blasted with nobody on your team fast enough to contest them. But if your team now had the tools to help themselves, and chose not to use them, they deserve every piece of ordinance raining down.

I would likewise copy over Naval’s idea of default planes in every user’s deck in combination with Sim’s SP system - then everyone has the tools to help themselves whatever their “preference” is. I’d even throw in default SPAAG and SAMs for appropriate tiers, just to ensure every user has every possible counter whether they like it or not.

Also, forcing runway spawns with engines off would be a necessity, if it isn’t already obvious.

There are numerous instances where I would prefer to use a clean fighter as uptier insurance to swat CAS when most or all my tank lineup cannot hope to compete, but under current “CAS as powerup” rules, I’m not able to when it actually matters.

You’re preaching to the choir on this one, man. I merely propose giving SPAAG actual aiming assists (not the console whatever, but Rangefinding-skill-based lead indicators) instead of trying to castrate CAS further by locking them to cockpit view.

To start with, give them stealth belts like many of the planes have. Removing the “I’M HERE” beacon might give them a fighting chance, so the spaa are not always targeted by the other CAS while they are shooting at the first one.

More proximity fuses for vehicles that had them

tank-only gamemode should be added, there is no reason it still doesnt exist. air RB has its own gamemode without players in SAMs interfering

gaijins resolve to milk players for money by incentivizing buying overpowered aircraft shouldnt be tolerated

I mean…they were testing SAM launchers in a gamemode they shoved in for like 2 days
seems they have something in mind…

Regardless, wouldnt mind if they put more pressure on all of us in top tier ARB with SAM launchers AI during Operations maybe

Cause like…
Why is this shit box at 14.0 shooting at me for?

Then someone should write a suggestion about this, because this idea still hasn’t been suggested to Gaijin.

EDIT:
Scratch that, I’m wrong! It has been suggested, it’s just in a different category. It seems it was done a long time ago considering it was on the legacy forum! And it has been considered at least for some time now.

where do you write a suggestion officially? im pretty sure there were threads about tank-only in the past

The skill of some brain dead spaa players is a problem, the amount of time i see CS/SA5 players using AP belts or gepard shooting at 5km distance is unreal. Or Pantsir players just… standing there not doing anything while I or the enemy climbs up.

Sometimes a single atgm is enough for a s1, even though it can intercept up to 7 at a time with little to no issue.

They will never correct those issues. There will be too much outrage if CAS can’t destroy tanks at will.

As I’ve posted before, one way to start is to give spaa stealth belts. We know they exist because planes use them. Why not for spaa?

Barring some drastic changes to how CAS interacts with ground (I just don’t see it happening) the Ground Only mode should be added. How hard can that be? The “ground” part is already there. Just remove the air part.

While I might agree on the aircraft aviability similiar to naval, “tank-only” is also matter of preference, not matter of someone utilizing tool.

And its completly legitimate preference.

Im not die-hard tank-only mode fan, but I absolutely understand why there are some people that would want to focus on tank to tank gameplay without having to use vehicle classes (be it SPAA or CAS or CAP) that do not interest them slightly.

thats still a legitimate preference, just like gun only top tier (as much as i like to glaze it, i can understand why people would want to play that).

I agree.

Im not entirely sure that I vibe with such thought process.

You want to essentially “force” them to get over their preferences and see it as legitimate want, fair enough.

But, hypothetically, suppose situation was reversed - how would you feel if someone tried to force you over your preferences, whatever they might be?

Again, Im not entirely sure I vibe with such thought process.

Just play another game bro” - sure, but my progress wouldnt carry over, id have to convince lot of my friends to switch over too (and THEIR progress wouldnt carry over), the choices would be much more limited (AFAIK Gunner, HEAT, PC offers only cold war vehicles, not WW2 ones and its only US vs. Soviet Union; might be wrong about that tho), and most importantly, IIRC theres no multiplayer (again might be wrong about that), and even if there was, player pool would be much more smaller.

Sure, I can play Sprocket all day, but using the tanks in game is only entertaining so far against bots.

Again, hypothetically, suppose situation was reversed - how would you feel if you were told to “just play another game”?

Thast probably why I dont vibe with it lol.

Not for Warthunder. Some people like competitive FPS shooters, but when TF2 (a very casual game) was overhauled to appeal to comp, it nearly killed the game entirely.
