I can see you don’t switch from IR to Photocontrast lock with the strela at all…Using to photocontrast would of saved you from CAS on the Strela along with downing the aircraft with ease since flares would not work.
The Osa, firing when there is a tree blocking your view also screwed up your chance to lead the missile. Didn’t bother on moving a tad forward for a better view and your aiming the reticle exactly where the jet is instead of leading with it causing a miss.
Also, relying only on radar screen to find targets shouldn’t be your only way to find CAS. There is Air Alert that will tell you where the heli or jet is located along with how high they are even if you cannot see them due to trees, mountains, buildings etc…
Struggling to use 2 really good SAMs is…sad to see.
I’m starting to think that maybe they should actually add played controlled infantry to the game so they can give then Stinger launchers; Would make playing anti-air a lot easier.
What moment are you talking about? Osa and Su-25T? As if that would help, he went under all the trees.
Again Osa and Su-25T? I didn’t miss, he killed me faster than my rocket could reach him.
Most of the time CAS kill me before i can do anything, before i can detect them, out of my range, or when two or more heli/planes focus me at the same time. Osa radar barely works sometimes and Strela doesn’t even have one.
I really have to stare at the sky and at every mountain, tree, building, cloud that heli or plane might be hiding behind, spamming Air Alert 360? Awesome gameplay
Why you have to be a cut above to beat point-clickers who have a huge advantage over you. And what do you get in the end? The most boring gameplay with near-zero rewards.
Gepards are not overperforming, if they were then they’d keep going up in BR, what you are claiming just undermines the balance of gun-based radar SPAAG and makes CAS more prevalent at BRs where alternatives cannot cope
In a technical sense, 35mm APHE does make a questionably large amount of fragments for its size, as does the 30mm guns on the Falcon and AMX-30 DCA.
But, as many a Reddit thread complaining about this pointed out - by not allowing even a test of more realistic APHE, we have nobody to blame but ourselves for such crazy APHE shell behavior existing.
Thus, I say why not balance SPAAG as if they were IFVs - i.e. treat the “AA” part as a bonus, because they gotta survive getting to useful locations on the map first before planes are even a factor. Especially with how planes currently are CoD killstreak powerups…
Due to how lackluster many gun AAs currently are, I have resorted to spading them in Arcade. I tried for several matches to play “correctly” - even when planes were aware of me, not one bothered to try strafing me. Not exactly much I can be expected to do in such a situation…if I try going to where my teammates are, I get popped by tanks long before planes are a factor.
Afaik, they are going off of realistic figures for the HE filler present within the API-T of the Oerlikons, idk how that translates into post-pen damage but it’s a fairly large amount of filler, paired with just enough pen and fire rate to spread a lot of it within a tank.
While there is ground to complain about vehicles like the ZA-35 (something I’m rather guilty of abusing xD), most of it’s merit comes from experience, and catching enemies off guard, in terms of a concentrating enemy vs large squishy spaa, the odds of destruction are far lower than not listening to engine noises and loud 35mm firing, so IMHO it’s an issue on behalf of those dying to it, rather than the weapon itself being ravenously OP
Do other guns’ AP-I and API-T rounds act like that, though? For example, 30mm AP-I rounds on the Kugelblitz?
And you see, you yourself pointed out most of the complaints are just rage against dying period, which the person probably would have done no matter what you were using.
As I would prefer to balance SPAAGs as if they were IFVs, I would give all of them the same limitless AP(FS)DS option that IFV cannons have. If any of them are missing such rounds despite them existing for the gun, they would be given it (XM246 and ZA-35).
Currently as far as WT is concerned, SPAAG must kill tanks first, and then potentially kill planes if the opportunity arises. I remember the days when the Whirbelwind had 65mm pen and I was melting T-34s and Shermans with it. THAT is what an SPAAG suited for WT should be.
How, exactly? MBT side armor in 8.0-10.0 is more often than not hilariously thin. Cupola shot APHE mechanics are universally stupid and not specifically an issue to the Gepard itself. The radar enables killing planes ruthlessly with minimal practice and effort.
My conclusion is that the 35mm SPAA are no less OP than any fast firing autocannon wielding vehicles (BMP/BMD/Dardo/Turm III/Moderna/etc…), it’s just the fact that it’s an SPAA doing the killing that annoys people.
Especially with cases of the rapid russian light tanks, the BMP-3 and BMD-4s are in their own right significantly more of a menace than any 35mm SPAAG can ever be, and yet there is far less ranting and raving about those vehicles
Seems like the conclusion here is to rebuff SPAAGs by intentionally reshuffling their BRs so they can reliably kill tanks, and have the devblogs talking about it openly threaten to downtier them further if the community complains too much. A very stern devblog saying “you accept this when its an IFV or light tank, but not when its an SPAAG - this is pure hypocrisy. Accept it or leave.”
Once in a while you see a video on Reddit about people using drones to range artillery shots with both of those. But other than that, not really, no.
I remember som1 saying smthn about the Yak-9K’s APHE being modeled as an HE with alot of pen rather than an APHE. Something similar could be going on with the 35mms.
If they actually wanted to nerf vehicles like the Falcon, they would put it down in BR, lol. When you get a 7.3 game, it is heavy tank after heavy tank - you actually have to put some thought into position and aiming. When you get a 8.3-9.3 game, it is light tanks galore. Spray and pray and the kills start coming.
XD that’s exactly how it works, most of the radar SPAAGs have gone up in BR gradually, so clearly gaijin does use BR to balance them
Again false, it’s modelled simply as a SAP-HE/APHE round with a fast fire rate, meaning that there is a higher percentile chance that it’ll pen and do damage
Well i’ve dealt with him in the past, his ‘extensive’ top tier knowledge is just playing squadron tanks and the guy still thinks he is entitled to calling for balancing decisions and strong opinions
