How player skill with SPAA effects the CAS problem

AA guns have a limited effective range. They are good for countering the planes that swoop down, but for planes flying at altitude you need something more like flak batteries to stand a chance at scoring hits, and even those are more fit to counter mass formations of bombers.

The real solution is not a tank only mode, but to introduce more diverse weather conditions that make effective flying impossible.

We saw an attempt at this with the low visibility cloud cover and the introduction of default airfield spawns, but people just ignored that and flew anyway.

What we need is true zero visibility flying conditions and heavy weather storms to actually make flying too difficult to be effective. However it is inevitable that such conditions will also impact the vehicles fighting on the ground.

Hurling insults just cause you’re mad that you don’t have an argument to stand on is grounds for reporting.

If Gajin added a prediction system to rangefinders, as well as fine control for timed fuze shell detonation, then we could very well have that.

i think the bigger issue is that manning a flak battery during an air battle isnt fun

It would take out anyone flying in a straight line, which could stop air battles B4 they even begin.

wheres the fun in that?

CAS haters don’t get the excuse that vehicles like Yag-10 and 8,8cm flak are too vulnerable to CAS and can’t fight back.

those are the closest we have to period flak batteries, why would someone want to bring one out to an ARB match just to drive around for more than triple the size of a GRB map and likely not do anything

Good point. There’s probably someone that would find shooting ai ground attack targets and that B-25 who’s about to be jumped by Wyverns fun.

not in war thunder.

we had this, and it sucked because it limited CAS to only the best players while stopping AA from being able to see the aircraft because clouds. weather was changed a few months back because it didnt work

Isn’t that addressing the anti-CAS cries of no skill though? If someone can fly effectively and get kills in zero visibility conditions then they’ve certainly earned it.

Good players deserve the kills they get (excluding glitch exploits) doesnt mean theres balance in the mode

Look, I play CAS in ground and have single handedly turned matches by abolishing whole enemy teams with AN-M65a1 1000pdr bombs. its a godsend to struggling teams when the good pilots take off but one dude with an arsenal of bombs shouldnt be the main deciding factor everin a ground focused mode.

pilots get squad markers and map pings for where to go if the clouds blind them, AA players get a rough compass direction and an altitude that is obsolete by the end of the “air” callout. the best way for people to deal with CAS gods is to jump in a spitfire, that is NOT ok

what solution do you propose that doesnt throw historical accuracy or realism completely out of the window?

make cas a buttload more expensive to stop the baserusher meta

make all aircraft take off from runway upon spawn

let aircraft be scouted by light tanks

increase BR of aircraft in ground significantly (move SPAA up by same bump obviously) Cant fix stupid SPAA players but we can make it so that ground vehicles are more naturally equipped to deal with air threats due to being newer and rated better

War thunder doesnt work by historical matchmaking bounds, we need to stop pretending that it is.

Vehicles are modelled as historically accurate in capabilities (unless gaijin is being stupid and nerfs for balance or because a mechanic isnt present yet) They face what should be a relativley fair fight.

How much more expensive? What price do you think is fair to use a plane? Should light tanks lose the perk where successful scouting makes planes cheaper?

So basically delay the amount of time between plane spawn and strike capability. I think, at best, this will only effect revenge bombing which is encouraged by the natural order of gameplay plus the eye for an eye achievement and kill cams, but whatever.

This I do agree with.

Elaborate and provide an example. The Hellcat is 3.3 and its equivalent AA is like the Crusader AA. Are you saying both should be more like 5.0?

There is no way to make a fight between a plane with ground pounding ordinance and a bunch of tanks as fair as you want it to be. It is inherently a mismatch of capabilities, and that’s why air superiority has been the defining factor of almost every battle in every war since WWII.

1.5-2x more expensive depending on the ground strike capability, dedicated fighters who dont have a Pulkzerstörer/yak9k ability in oneshotting a tank should stay a similar price to combat the P47 thunderbolts, SU30s and SU9s

Remove the airstrike mechanic too, Ive gotten CAS planes to be cheaper than light tanks several times before, its just stupid.

yes, exactly what im aiming for. reduce the revenge bomber spam and also make bombtossing much harder to initially set up. killcams are a neccessary evil to combat campers i regret
give heavy bombers airspawn still. they already have it hard

yep i am, it also inadvertently helps with the Gepard/falcon tank destroyer meta as they are gonna be facing far more lethal tanks that dont care for their dollar store APDS

its no perfect fix but at least a ww2 generation of tank wont be seeing ballistic computer calculated bombings and my chieftain wont be eating a maverick.

That means high tier planes would cost nearly 2000 points to spawn, ridiculous.

Tragic, player has to play tanks in tank mode and the most powerful A2G systems are expensive

Good Gaijin doesn’t listen to people who are so detached from reality i guess.

:-) they dont listen to you at all.

CAP should be the same price as the average CAS plane due to how big of an advantage it has over CAS.

Imo, the simplest way to solve this is have base spawn cost decided by flight performance.

Light fighters (Spitfire) 650sp

Heavy fighters (P-51D) 600sp

Light attackers (AD-4, Stuka) 550sp

Heavy attackers (Me 410) 500sp

Bombers (Pe-8) 450sp

This would be a good base to then adjust the ordinance cost if something is over/underperforming.

I 100% agree. Idk what Gajin was on when they added Airstrike, and why they still haven’t removed it.

Do you mean for 7.0+?
